Interviewed Feb 2012 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
Received an invitation for a telephone interview shortly after applying on-line. The interview begun with a background check. Besides the usual strength/weakness questions, they also asked me specifically about HSBC, like its values, future challenges, etc. One thing that bothered me was that there was no interaction with the interviewer. She asked the questions, pressed the recorder, then you would hear a beeping sound, start talking for a minute, and that was it. In the end, she didn't even ask me if i had any questions for her.. Nevertheless, the questions were insightful and went a little further than the traditional HR bs ones.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in City of London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
I applied online and did the online psychometric test, numerical and verbal tests. After that there was the phone interview in which several competency questions were asked. The phone interviewer spoke really fast but was very pleasant to talk with. After the phone interview, I was put on hold for several minutes while they did an on-the-spot evaluation to decide the outcome. Depending on whether you are successful or unsuccessful you will be informed immediately and you can choose to receive feedback in which they will tell you in detail on which segment of the interview were they not satisfied with your answer. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo (Brazil) (took 2 days)
They asked me personal type questions and motivation, basic following my resume line.
They didn't asked me specific questions about credit policies, or anything related to payroll loans. They just needed somebody "hands on", so it they wouldn't care about specific knowledge.
The position was offered by the end of the interview (3 analystis), and I have to come back in the following day to talk to the senior manager.
