Interviewed Sep 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 days)
I had already been waiting a few weeks after sending the application but everything was sped up after meeting some associates at a networking evening and one offered to forward my CV onto HR. I was then invited to sit the online tests and the next day I was invited to book a telephone interview. I found out within a week that I had passed the interview for the assessment centre (they had kept me well-informed via email along the way about my application progress until then). The AC was a full day that consisted of two business interviews, one competency and a case study. You also had to pass the numerical test at the start.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
Received an invitation for a telephone interview shortly after applying on-line. The interview begun with a background check. Besides the usual strength/weakness questions, they also asked me specifically about HSBC, like its values, future challenges, etc. One thing that bothered me was that there was no interaction with the interviewer. She asked the questions, pressed the recorder, then you would hear a beeping sound, start talking for a minute, and that was it. In the end, she didn't even ask me if i had any questions for her.. Nevertheless, the questions were insightful and went a little further than the traditional HR bs ones.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in City of London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
I applied online and did the online psychometric test, numerical and verbal tests. After that there was the phone interview in which several competency questions were asked. The phone interviewer spoke really fast but was very pleasant to talk with. After the phone interview, I was put on hold for several minutes while they did an on-the-spot evaluation to decide the outcome. Depending on whether you are successful or unsuccessful you will be informed immediately and you can choose to receive feedback in which they will tell you in detail on which segment of the interview were they not satisfied with your answer. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 weeks)
The role was through a recruitment agency who saw my CV on-line and thought that i had a good employment history in KYC/AML and put my CV forward. I was called in for a first and second round of the interview stage. The interview consisted of brief chat about my work history, techical skills and personal achievements. It was a panel interview and it comprised of three different stages. The team was extremley friendly and made me feel comfortable during the interview process.

Process consisted of 3 stages:

2- Phone interview: typical behavioral interview questions (tell me about a time you showed xxx), questions on how much you know/ researched about the program
3 - Assessment center: full say simulation of a day in the life of a manager. Included 1:1 behavioral interview, group discussion, presentation, report writing, email responses and time management
Overall very intense stressful day but great opportunity to get to know other candidates and early joiners who answer questions

Interviewed Nov 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
Heard from a friend, applied online, and did 2 online tests. Passed both and received a couple of weeks later an invitation to the first round interview on phone. Schedule a suitable time.
The interviewer was very friendly. Went through the interview structure to let me know what kind of interview it is.
The interview itself consisted mostly of management consulting like questions: "how would you handle this specific problem within a group?" and scenario based questions which has to be explained in the smallest details. This can be very difficult if you haven´t prepared several layers of examples. The topics they will focus on is however your drive, leadership skills and your team playing skills.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
Graduate Scheme - Trading Analyst - Global Markets - London
Applied online and received the invitation to undertake the online assessment within a few hours and then was asked to book a telephone interview within a day, so I guess HSBC is quite productive in processing applications.
The interview went well, it was mainly financial and motivational based. Nothing from text book was asked so make sure you know the news, not just current news but also be able to tell a story about the trends of the last few weeks, months or years.
Motivational based questions are the same as other competency questions. Why HSBC ? Why Global Markets - Trading ? Strengths ? Weaknesses ? Skills etc. Also make sure you can tell a story about those.
I received an email saying that I passed the interview a day later and I am still waiting for the invitation for the assessment centre.
Hope that helps,

Interviewed Feb 2010 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 weeks)
I applied online, after which I had a phone interview and several online tests. After passing that, I was invited to an assessment day which consisted of a presentation and three different types of interviews, as well as one final logic/mathematical test. The key was understanding the business and job I was applying to.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 days)
After application, online assessment and phone interview with personality test (pretty simple, directed at your ability to be international and proactive), there is an assessment center to attend outside London at the HSBC training facility.
On the first day it's all good fun, but on the second day the process starts with a load of papers that are not in order, refer to three different projects and are pretty hard to get into a decent context. There are three parts to the day, where these documents are relevant, and one interview pretty much repeating the personality test originally given on the phone. The three parts relate to the same company. One is the choice of a consulting firm, one is the choice of a location (team discussion and decision, GRADED!!), and an interview (you interview somebody to find problems and solutions in the company). Finally, there is a synthesizing presentation of the entire thing. Start preparing that early, as they will let you know that you have to do this only shortly before you have the meeting.
Interview Questions
The hardest part is the mock meeting (you interviewing someone), as he/she is instructed to give you no info and not help you out at all.

The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Presentation, an IQ/Intelligence Test, a Skills Test and a Personality Test.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
I received a call from an HR employee. It seemed she randomly chose the questions from a list and typed my answers. The interview wasn't difficult at all - you just need to be careful not to come across as stressed and nervous.
