Went in and had a casual sit down interview with the guest services manager in the book department. She asked me about my past job experiences and if I was in school. She then offered me a job, and sent me for a drug screen.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Ames, IA (took 5 days)
Applied online, took the personality test. I waited a day and then called back into the store to check on my application and they said they wanted me to come in for an interview. Came in the next day and interviewed. Received a call that afternoon saying the job was mine after signing the paperwork and passing the drug test. Took another couple days and I was officially hired.

Negotiation Details
The pay isn't very negotiable on part time positions but becomes more so as you advance. Best thing I would recommend you negotiate for is hours/days. I was able to get either a Friday or Saturday night off every week, and one full weekend off every month which is pretty nice to have when you're in college.

I applied to work in person, and was called in for an interview within a day or two. It consisted of speaking with the manager and taking a skills test thy mainly covered math and ethics.
That was used to determine my pay rate. So take it seriously. They actually paid pretty well, and the work was simple. Staff was friendly, and I'd work there again if I still lived there.

I walked into the store and talked to an employee at a register, who then led me to the person conducting the interview. I was asked a series of questions, mostly typical. Nothing caught me by surprise, but I definitely could have answered a few questions better. I mostly likely lacked the experience to be a successful barista, which is probably why I wasn't hired.

My guess is that I got a new interviewer. The questions were vague to the point of being nonsensical. He mumbled so much that it was difficult to understand him. When I called to confirm the date of the interview, he acted like I was insane for doing such a thing and when I got there I had to wait for an hour after my scheduled interview time before I could talk to him.

Company had a posting on CarrerBuilder. Applied through their corporate website on a Tuesday morning and got called within 3 hours of the applicaiton to schedule an interview for that thursday. I interviewied with a local store manager at their store the interview ran for 1 hour and 40 minutes. I was informed at that point I would then need to interview with the District Manager. They called the next morning at 8 am and setup and interview for that afternoon with the District Manager. Well see how that one goes.

Well what I tell most people when they ask for a leg up trying to get my job is to be persistent and call in to check the status of your application. Besides that just show up on time, look clean cut, do your job well and you'll be in the clear as far as getting on there goes.
