User Support Technician Interview

User Support Technician
Honolulu, HI

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Hawaii State Department of Education in July 2012.

Interview Details – Hear about job opening, meet with principal and/or vice principals. Questions are basic, scripted, straight from the State's job posting. Read this ahead of time and you can easily practice for the technical side of the interview but it just comes down to personality. They ask if you're OK with working overtime without pay. You're expected to be there during your hours to support staff and students. I got the job immediately and started the following Monday.

Interview Question – Where do you see yourself in 5 years?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – There is no negotiation as this is a State job, assigned a pay schedule of BU03 - White Collar non-supervisory SR-15.

Teacher Interview

Kailua, HI

I applied online and the process took 12 months - interviewed at Hawaii State Department of Education in March 2011.

Interview Details – The process took over a year and a half. The secondary interviews were all done by panels of school staff (teachers, principal, vice principal) - be aware that these panels do not have your detailed information. Bring references, resume, etc. to these interviews!

Interview Question – All questions were typical for a teaching position. Be prepared to answer questions about new programs in education (I'd try to talk with a teacher at the school beforehand to see what's new), as well as "Common Core" standards.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiations in education!
