    Application Details

The process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Head Start.

    Interview Details

I applied in March to receive a letter stating they were not currently hiring. In July, I received an email from the secretary asking me if I was still interested in the job. They called July 28th to tell me when the interviews were and I interviewed on August 1st. I heard back on August 13. School was to start the next week, so It was all very last minute.

    Interview Questions
    • Be ready to answer questions about your strengths and weaknesses. They also ask about what curriculum you are familiar and most comfortable with. They want to know how well you work with others and as supervising teacher, how you will delegate tasks to teachers and volunteers in the classroom. There is a lot of paperwork, so they ask you how you would handle that. They also discuss forms of assessment. They ask you how you would plan, prepare and implement lessons and how your ideal classroom would be set up. They ask about how you keep up on your professional development and what courses you would like to see made available. You should also be prepared to discuss how you would handle various scenarios in the classroom. Then, the kicker question is why they should choose you out of all the other applicants.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details

3 interviewers at one time. One mainly did the questioning and every once in a while another jumped in. Casual and comfortable. Gave you questions up front that they would ask you which I found helpful. I thought they were pretty laid back and welcoming. Answered all my questions. It took a month to two to receive the phone call for the interview.

    • How would you handle a situation if you saw another teacher possibly abusing a child?   View Answer
    • Would you be comfortable teaching another language to the children?   View Answer
    Negotiation Details
Asked what I was hoping for as the price range on the company website has quite a range. Go with your gut feeling and ask away. You can always tell them it's negotiable. Recently though the salary has come down with the economy. Also at times, when one applies for a certain position, they may ask you to work a lead teacher position if they feel you have the qualification.
