Interview Details – The hiring and interview process went very well. The Admissions Director was very well organized and professional. I was scheduled to come in on a Saturday for an interview to accommadate my busy schedule. Interview was about 30-45 minutes and she immediately gave me an aswer and I was able to give my previous employer a 2 weeks notice and started working 2 weeks later.

Interview Details –
I initially responded to a job posting online. It was one of those generic electronic applications where you answer questions for what seems like forever. Upon clicking the submit button, it took 1-2 weeks to hear back from anyone. When I finally did get a response, I had a 30-45 minute phone interview, scheduled an in-person interview for the next week, and 1 day before I was to show up, was told by my interviewer (hereinafter cold shoulder) I needed to prepare a 30-minute presentation for a group interview that best reflected my teaching abilities. I completely winged it.
Two weeks went by and I heard nothing. I called a couple of times, always getting the run-around from cold shoulder; she acted like she didn't even remember me. Finally, less than a week before the start of a new quarter, cold shoulder offered me the job and stipulated that I had to create a syllabus and lesson plans from scratch for two courses that were never listed on the job announcement or discussed as possible job assignments during the interview or presentation phase. Again, I winged it.
I was also told I'd get paid $2000 per course, but later discovered that with all the administrative expectations involved to meet compliance, what should have been $22-25 an hour quickly dissipated to $7-8 an hour if you were to ever do the job the way Heald demanded. Again, I winged it.
There were plenty of warning signs that I shouldn't have accepted this job. There were also plenty of warning signs that I shouldn't have kept this job either. Suffice to say, I had no reservations about leaving.
Interview Question – If you had a student abruptly act up, how would you respond? View Answer
Negotiation Details – No room for negotiation. It's a "take it or leave it" kind of offer. At the time, anything is better than no employment, but in hindsight, retail pays better than adjuncting for Heald. Full-time teaching isn't much better.

Interview Details –
- applied online
- received a call within two days and set up an interview time
- got there on time. had to wait 30 minutes because the interviewer was late.
- was a group interview, with each candidate answering same question and slowing down the whole process even more (mine took more than 2 hours because there were 6 people being interviewed).
- interviewer said some things were pretty ridiculous and outright lies. i had to try hard not to laugh at some of the things he was saying.
- was told he will contact select people for further one-on-one interviews in the next few days and the session will end with a tour of the campus.
- walked out after the group interview after telling the interviewer i'm no longer interested and took off, skipping the tour altogether since it made no sense to waste more time on a job i had no interest in.
- received a standard "thanks but no thanks" e-mail the next day, but that was expected after telling them i'm no longer interested.

Interview Details –
Adjunct Faculty interview consisted of making a presentation along with answering some questions mostly on handling difficult students. The presentation lasted about 30 minutes. The other part of the interview was asking questions NOT on your area of expertise but on your ability to handle difficult students.
The time between phone interview and the on site job interview was about 2 weeks. The on site interview also included a tour of the facilty. A tour of the facility resulted in seeing disruptive students arguing in the hall way similar to a high school. I was left with the impression that Heald College would be better off called Heald High. I suspect that the vast majority of Heald College students were just marking time having no direction in life.

Reason for Declining –
Salary was too low. $2000 per course. The $2000 per course with all the administrative details that Heald required being contacted absent students and other paperwork resulted in the job working to about $7 an hour.
The other major factor in declining a job at Heald College (aka Heald High, Heal without a D) is that the owner being Corinthian Colleges, Inc. is in it only for the money. Student quality is extremely poor and the instructor is required to pass almost everybody.

Interview Details – The interview was directed by the Academic Dean and the new Associate Academic Dean. The Associate Dean did the majority of the interviewing as the position being chosen was the one she had just vacated. Very friendly group, very professional. Nine interviewees were in attendance.
