Interviewed Mar 2012 in New York, NY (took 5 days)
I applied online last Thursday, and on Friday, I received a call from a recruiter in New Jersey. We talked for a few minutes and he asked me some basic questions about my previous job experience. Then we scheduled an interview for Monday at a Manhattan location. Monday I had my interview at 1:30, but showed up a few minutes early. I was out of there by 1:38! The interview was not really an interview, but just an explanation of what the job was. I did some research on my interviewer and learned that she's a college student, so probably around my age. This was why she was so laid back and easy going.
I was told that I would be getting a call back. I didn't think I would. So on Wednesday, I sent an email to the recruiter asking how to send a thank you to the interviewer, and by the time my next class started, I was offered the job!
I drug tested the same day! Easiest process ever.

Interviewed May 2010 (took 1 week)
Applied online and was called by HR within a few hours. Passed the HR interview and set up a face to face with the store manager (who had never done any kind of interview prior to mine). Had a positive interview and set up another with the Area Manager. All they do is tell you how great it is and how much money you can make. They do not tell you that there is little turnover above Branch Manager so you have little or no chance of making it out of the store level.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in McKinney, TX (took a day)
I was called about the job by an HR rep, told about the position and scheduled a 1 on 2 interview the next week with branch and regional manager. I went to the interview and they asked a little about customer service and a little about sales but mainly the described the job to me and what I would be doing and what they pay was: $10.50 an hour with 10-15 OT hours a week. Not great but I'll take it for now. And they asked if I was ok with washing cars in formal attire and blah blah blah. I feel like I answered all their questions very well and made a good impression and the regional manager said I would be hearing from them, and I took that as a good sign. They said they had 2 more people to interview in the next few days and said they would call either by the end of last week or beginning of this. It's Tuesday and I have received nothing. I sent a thank you email to them on Wednesday or Thursday, got no reply. I'm very disappointed as I feel I am beyond qualified for the job and that I did well in the interview.

Interviewed Feb 2011 (took 2 weeks)
Applied online after getting rejected for the same position at Enterprise which pays their trainees 18.95/hour. Got an email from a recruiter a few days later. She was very nice and even gave me tips on what to do to prepare for the interview. She actually conducted the phone interview and later sent me an online assessment. Then got called in fairly quickly for an inperson interview. Met with the area manager. She set me up with an interview with the regional manager. The day I showed for my second interview, the regional manager wasn't even there, so I met with the area manager again. She offered me the job and I accepted.

Absolutely none. The fact that they expect you to live on 11.50 hour is ludicrous. The best part about the job are the health and dental benefits.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 1 week)
So I applied for Hertz for a manager trainee position through website. Got a call from a Headquarters in New Jersey. He asked very basic questions about 1: tell me about yourself, 2: any sales/customer services exp and also 3: very basic behavioral questions (sry i cant remember all of them).
Got a call back from a area manager to set up an interview. Interview was scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
Walked in the office at 8:50 a.m. and been told that the area manager was arriving. He came in the office on time but I did not START the INTERVIEW UNTIL 10 A.M. This is one of the things made me write this review. There were a couple of things that I saw in the office that did not go so well. While I was sitting down, I was observing the front desk. There were 3 customers waiting to get helped, but all the employees at Hertz were outside doing something else. That shows you the customers service culture they have.. and it made me realize do you really want to work for a place that leaves your customers hanging? There were a few customers who I saw got very irritated b/c they were not being helped. They had a staff of 5-6 and all of them were outside doing who knows what.
Besides that, I forgot to tell you guys that there was a girl jst before me who got interviewed as I waited in lobby. The manager actually took a pause from the interview for about 15 minutes to go outside to talk to his friend, while the girl was sitting in his office....waiting....& waiting. Talk about unprofessional. She finished at it was my turn, so here hows my interview went:
He asked basic questions:
1: tell me about yourself (basically this questions and talk about your previous work exp)
(there was one thing that I never heard before. As i quit my last job to finish up my degree, he asked ME
"Why dont you go back to your previous job" This is interview... .If i wanted to back to my previous job, I wouldnt applied here BRAHH.. I wanted to say that , but I just said I need a career change.
2:why do you want to work at Hertz? Why cars?
3 SELL ME YOUR CELLPHONE? this is the question that I actually did well. Pretty much sell your cellphone to him/her.
Overall, got a call back for a offer but never responded. WHY? Reasons being if they cant even treat an interviewer well, what do you think is going happen to the CUSTOMERS? My friend also works for Hertz as a mgt trainee, works 50-60 hrs/week, paid $10 OT, get constantly bitched at customers/ managers if you dont meet sales quota, and for what? a promotion? He's been working there for 2 yrs.....same spot. Oh ya I forgot to say that the manager also promised me a promotion within 3-4 months if they feel that you qualified for the position.. TOTAL BULLSNIT.
Overall, if you want to work long hours 50-60+, get paid $10(before taxes), get constantly screamed at by customers and mgt, Hertz is for you. As I seen, there is no upward mobility to company. Everything is handled down by corporate down, but hey whats new though right? Its America.
But if you want to just work there for 1 year, get exp and move on... I guess this is a good resume builder. For me though. as I was sitting in the lobby watching all the customers not being helped, it made me realized what its going be like working for this company... and also how the manager treated everyone like how he left the lady in the interview for 15 mins... while he was chatting it up.t
Don't get me wrong though, this is just my experience. You guys may have a better one or a worst. I am just giving my advice on the how the company runs. Dont run with my words, you guys just have to experience yourself. But for all the reviews on Hertz, it seems like there are alot of negatives vs positives.

Interviewed Jun 2011 (took a day)
The manager trainee position was deceptive, at the very least. The hiring manager stated the process consisted of working as a customer service rep for $1O/hr, indefinately until a new location opened up. Upon that time, I would be one of many in a pool of candidates to continue on with manager training. The problem I had with this was having been in the travel indusry for more than 12 years, I knew how often those locations actually opened, which was very little. After probing the manager with questions such as, "How many customer service reps are working at each location with the intention of going into management?", "What is the actual growth rate for this city and surrounding areas?"....It became clear that the possibility of becoming an actual manager of a location was slim to none and basically they were getting away with hiring people at $10 to run the entire show. Hence, cheap labor. Unless you want to work for $10 indefinately I'd consider another path of employment.
The upside of this environment would be a great opportunity for kids out of high school or college needing CSR and basic management skills experience.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Antioch, CA (took 1 week)
Applied online and received a call from a recruiter the next day. Had a brief phone interview regarding previous sales and customer service experience.(about 15 min). The recruiter then said a driver's license with a clean record was required so I was sent a link via email to fill out a form for a dmv check. The next day the recruiter called back to schedule interview with area manager. The area manager was very nice and professional. The interview consisted of scenario questions(about 3-4) and then I was told more about the position and what to expect. I was then offered a second interview on the spot with a person from HR. The second interview was more information about the company and the expectations they have for the person in a manager trainee position. I was then told that the two interviewers would make a decision and I should hear back from the recruiter within 3-5 business days. I received a call from the recruiter the next morning with an offer. I was then sent to the same website I submited my driver's license information to complete and agree to a background check which I was told should take about 3-5 business days. I also was sent to complete a drug test. Overall fairly easy and basic interview.

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 3 days)
My interview process started with a phone screening requesting additional information background information to proceed further. They checked my driving record before even initiating a 1 on 1 interview with the regional manger. During my interview with the regional manager, I was asked the general questions like "why should we pick you over other equally qualified candidates". The manage also had me demonstrate up-selling to a customer using pens where I would try to up-sell the customer from a "standard" pen to a "deluxe" pen which costs double the price of a standard pen. Furthermore, I was also requested to sell an insurance package on the "deluxe" pen to measure my abilities as a salesperson.
I asked what the average time is to advance from the "Management Trainee" position and was informed that advancement is primarily based upon sales and that most individuals who show strong sales can advance in 1-2 years. There is nothing remotely related to management in this "Management Trainee" position. You are a standard sales rep with a fancy title.
