Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Falls Church, VA Mar 2010 – Reviewed Oct 14, 2010
Interview Details – I initially applied to Hewitt Associates through the career center at my university. The process was very smooth from start to finish as the HR personnel really knew how to communicate effectively. Both phone and in-person interviews were behavioral as asked questions about my resume, background, and educational program. The latter occurred at their office and consisted of three-30 minute interviews with various associates. I accepted the offer as a summer analyst and was beyond pleased with the overall experience and caliber of the individuals in the practice. They are a very friendly group of individuals with an extensive knowledge of benefits consulting that deliver great work to clients.

Interview Details – in general, people are very nice at hewitt. the atlanta office has very nice lobby but don't be fooled cuz the office space is pretty crappy. free parking is a plus. lots of resturants to eat around the office. depends on the group you will be working for, some groups are casual and outgoing and some are pretty boring (like mine).

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Atlanta, GA Jan 2008 – Reviewed Jul 28, 2010
Interview Details – The interview process was fairly striaghtforward. I initially met with the HR/recruiter who asked very basci screening questions about my work history, gaps in employment and interests. I was then forwarded over to see a practice leader who delved more into my grasp of human capital theory and practices. After this interview I met with various members of the practice and was asked more "fit" related questions. We all then went to lunch in their "free" cafeteria onsite.
Interview Question – Give me a example of how you handled a difficult client meeting? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – Didn't like the culture or the salary offer.

Interview Details – Very personable, professional interviewers. Met with two HR reps and one mid level manager. I was given many general questions about my leadership experience, analytic skills, mathematic and statistical background, as well as qualitative work I've done. They seemed less impressed with qualitative work and more interested in how I've use Excel

Declined Offer – Interviewed in The Woodlands, TX Mar 2009 – Reviewed Jun 10, 2010
Interview Details – The interview process was very tedious, its all about thinking of specific examples of when you did something.. Always Keep in mind STARR - Situations, Tasks, Actions, Results, Reflection.. and you will do just fine. Give specific details. and walk them through your entire process.
Interview Question – What do you feel is your greatest weakness? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – Hewitt still wants to work you to death and not pay for your efforts, asa former employee I know the politics involved, many of the people there are stuffy, and they preach about work/life balance but give you grief about time off. Like any other job its all about who you are connected with. If you are in the right circles things will be great for you, if not, you'll more than likely be miserable.
No Offer – Interviewed in Philadelphia, PA Nov 2009 – Reviewed Apr 13, 2010
Interview Details –
Hewitt has been doing an outstanding job providing information to plan sponsors regarding the impact of healthcare reform. I continue to be impressed by Hewitt's senior health and welfare talent. If you are lucky to receive an offer from this organization and it meets your 'criteria', take it!
The recruiting process at Hewitt was incredibly disorganized. The two recruiters for health and welfare appear to be overwhelmed with work (based on their lack of responsiveness). You will have better luck getting through to the Vatican than reaching either of them.
If you are interested in opportunities with Hewitt, are well-qualified and can produce a good case on why they should hire you, I'd highly recommend circumventing the recruiting team, to the extent possible, by marketing yourself directly to practitioners in the health and welfare line of business (i.e. consultants, principals, management). If the process ends up back with the recruiting team, stay in front of the contact you established in the line of business so your name stays out there.
In summary, don't be deterred by the formalities of the process if you really want to work for Hewitt. Find ways to limit the recruiting team's involvement in your candidacy and, if lucky, you'll find a great place to work.
Interview Question – There was nothing I found to be unexpected. The focus of the interview was more about getting to know me. Answer Question
