Very personable, professional interviewers. Met with two HR reps and one mid level manager. I was given many general questions about my leadership experience, analytic skills, mathematic and statistical background, as well as qualitative work I've done. They seemed less impressed with qualitative work and more interested in how I've use Excel

The interview is exciting. I present financial report to 2 Senior Managers. Then we changed some views regard the client issues. They asked me about the market condition of China consulting industry and the typical life of a Chinese consultant. They showed great interest to work in China..

Interviewed May 2010 (took 2 days)
I applied online, then received an email from a Hewitt Associates recruiter indicating their interest. The next step was to complete and email back to them, a rather lengthy questionnaire. This questionnaire basically asked the same questions as the online application I had submitted via Hewitt.com -- except they asked several questions about how much I made at my previous job (annual salary; bonus; overtime; other benefits; etc.) You have to provide all of this information to them EVEN BEFORE you speak to someone live regarding the job opportunity and your qualifications.
The recruiter received my completed questionnaire via email, and then set up a phone interview to "chat." This phone "interview" was rescheduled twice. Finally, when I did chat with the recruiter, she seemed MUCH MORE interested in what salary I was hired in at my previous job, what my annual raises were, etc. I found this to be very strange, and even indicated that that was all in the past, I am interested in this job at Hewitt.
This "chat" lasted no more than seven minutes. Then, even though I was well qualified for the job (having done it for five years at a previous company), the recruiter told me that I did not have a Project Management Certificate. So, I wasn't really qualified.
I thought "are you kidding me?" You saw I had the degrees and experience for this job, and you asked me to fill out a lengthy application. Now, you tell me I don't have a certificate? Why didn't you catch this upfront? Anyway, the Hewitt job description indicated that the certificate was OPTIONAL.
She told me they would keep me in mind for other opportunities for which I would be more closely qualified.
Conclusion: I was OVERQUALIFIED for the opportunity I applied for. I had done it successfully in the past, and have a graduate degree. I honestly conclude that Hewitt was more interested in learning what my salary, pay increases, bonuses, etc. where at my previous (their competitor) place of employment, than, having really any interest in hiring me.
I learned my lesson - don't give salary history information (what does it have to do with my application/qualifications anyway?) unless I have been invited for an inperson interview. Hewitt is in the business of salary data, etc. This is probably how they get their info on what competitors are paying. Surely, based on this experience, I would not want to work at this "shady" organization.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in The Woodlands, TX (took 5 days)
The interview process was very tedious, its all about thinking of specific examples of when you did something.. Always Keep in mind STARR - Situations, Tasks, Actions, Results, Reflection.. and you will do just fine. Give specific details. and walk them through your entire process.

Reason for Declining
Hewitt still wants to work you to death and not pay for your efforts, asa former employee I know the politics involved, many of the people there are stuffy, and they preach about work/life balance but give you grief about time off. Like any other job its all about who you are connected with. If you are in the right circles things will be great for you, if not, you'll more than likely be miserable.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took a day)
I was contacted by a representative from India regarding filling out a pre screening list as well as scheduling an interview.
I was in total interviewed by three associates from this company.
The company, on paper looks to be large and well organized and respectable.
After the interview though Im not so sure.
It seems that a great deal of work is either outsourced or i would be working significantly with off shore associates. A lot of work is done virtually, with associates in other offices. The system is extremely proprietary and the company doesnt seem to encourage a lot of growth within the job role.
I was told about how the organizational structure worked and I am really both intrigued as well as puzzled at why they would want to add another layer of buracracy to resource management (was informed about a "construction group"?
Reason for Declining
Nice people, but pay was a bit on the lower end compared to market averages for a similar role with responsiblities. Role seemed to "narrow" and offered little to no room for growth within the company as well as skill set.
Nice people, good looking company but fails on a few other aspects which are unforgiveable.

Interviewed Jun 2009 (took 2+ weeks)
The initial phone interview with the corporate recruiter was followed by phone interviews with the 2 hiring managers. Both consisted of structured behavioral questions, focusing on the core compentencies for the role. I was able to find a list of their competencies and associated questions ahead of time online, and prepared stories for each competency. It was a great learning experience. Ultimately I was not selected for the job from the final round of candidates.
One thing that was dissatisfactory about the process was that the position I applied for, and discussed with the recruiter, was listed as a client-facing HR role in the BPO group. I only realized halfway through the interview with the manager that this was incorrect, and that it was actually an internal HR role in their HR service group.

Interviewed Jan 2008 (took 5 days)
The HR called for a phone screen. After I was liked by her I was called for a day full of face to face interviews. 5 interviews back to back. No lunch was offered :( but the interviewers were no fuss no attitude peers to work with. Just a bit too old and resisted changes.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Philadelphia, PA (took 3 weeks)
Hewitt has been doing an outstanding job providing information to plan sponsors regarding the impact of healthcare reform. I continue to be impressed by Hewitt's senior health and welfare talent. If you are lucky to receive an offer from this organization and it meets your 'criteria', take it!
The recruiting process at Hewitt was incredibly disorganized. The two recruiters for health and welfare appear to be overwhelmed with work (based on their lack of responsiveness). You will have better luck getting through to the Vatican than reaching either of them.
If you are interested in opportunities with Hewitt, are well-qualified and can produce a good case on why they should hire you, I'd highly recommend circumventing the recruiting team, to the extent possible, by marketing yourself directly to practitioners in the health and welfare line of business (i.e. consultants, principals, management). If the process ends up back with the recruiting team, stay in front of the contact you established in the line of business so your name stays out there.
In summary, don't be deterred by the formalities of the process if you really want to work for Hewitt. Find ways to limit the recruiting team's involvement in your candidacy and, if lucky, you'll find a great place to work.
