Interviewed Oct 2011 in Austin, TX (took 3 weeks)
I received a call from a recruiter. I was willing to listen to the current business plans and accepted the next 1:1 interview with the hiring manager. That was a 30 min call. After that, I was brought onsite for 3 1:1 interviews from the team that I would be working with in Austin. After 2 days, they called back and offered me the position. We went back and forth for a week through negotiations and I accepted their final offer.
Negotiation Details
I negotiated salary, starting bonus, working offsite, and a few small perks. Overall, if they want to bring you onboard, they will do what they can to make sure you accept the position.
Other Details
I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in San Diego, CA (took 2 days)
I heard about the position through an old colleague who encouraged me to apply. I was able to exchange several emails with the hiring manger before the actual HR screening process began.
Once the screening process began, there were several questions such as why do you want to leave your current position, what sets you apart from your current team, in what enviornment do you perform your best etc. Much more in depth than I had initially expected for an intial screening interview. They did ask about how much I knew about the position. I always answer that question somewhat vauge even though I knew quite a bit about it. I kept it to the basics and that was sufficent for the HR recruiter. Who... as I found out was just coming up on a 20th anniversary at HP. Impressive and I think says a lot about the company.
When I was able to meet with the hiring manger turns our there were several positions I was being considered for. They provided a good overview of how the business works and is organized which in a highly complex organization, I appreciated. It did however make it a difficult intervew since there were slightly different skill sets for the positions available. Without knowing which position needed which skills, it made it a little more challenging to appropriately highlight my strengths
I think I'm in the running for at least two of the positions but until they have their hiring freeze lifted, I won't be excpecting to hear much from them. I do appreciate that they were very forthcoming on that front. The plan is to get all the candidates through the formal interview process then when the freeze is lifted, make the hire as quickly as possible. Clearly a very proactive organization which I value and appreciate.
So... it's a waiting game for me for the next several months and because I am currently employed, I'm ok with that.

Interviewed Nov 2009 (took 4 weeks)
I am not sure if this is the standard interview process. but I was contacted directly by the hiring manager. First he did a phone screen which was pretty standard. Then he called me in for an in-person interview where I met a number of people in person, including him, two direct reports and one other person. I also had a phone interview with someone in a remote location. After I spent 5+ hours interviewing I never anything back.... Nothing not a peep. I emailed once or twice and called to check in and nothing. It was a complete waste of time, and very inconsiderate. I don't think I would ever interview at HP again.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Palo Alto, CA (took 3 weeks)
HP generally does a phone screen by the hiring mgr. Then, "formal interviews" by team members or cross functional team members and managers. This is usually done in person, or phone if virtual - or a very, very busy department. HP does "Behavioral style interviewing" "tell me how you handles xyz situation".... however, nowadays not so many people are trained in this format (the hpway dying).... People are usually "good people", fair, intelligent, interesting.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Fort Collins, CO (took 6 weeks)
This was a very intense series of questioning from a panel. Before the interview, candidates were asked to complete a marketing plan for a specific line of business and present it to the panel. Then, several questions were asked by the panel to investigate background and processes.
