Interviewed Jan 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 2 months)
- 2 phone screens
- 3 in person interviews
Reasonably structured process, interviewed with team; offer decision was made within a week and communicated. Interviews were typical with some behavioral and personal questions. Seemed to depend quite a bit on how much you got along with the interviewer. Offer letter received within another week with 2 weeks to make decision.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Palo Alto, CA (took 2+ weeks)
Screening into the process was the most difficult part, but that was likely based on the recruiter. It was a panel to begin with, consisting of a wide range of "tell me about a project..." questions. Very rapid-fire, trying to test through generic answers and into something more substantive.

Negotiation Details
There was definitely room to negotiate. There are many facets of the offer that won't be able to be negotiated due to the byzantine processes left in wake of previous bad management, but in today's world that's mostly changed.
Other Details
I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 1+ week)
The process consisted of 2 phone interviews. The first was with my direct PM, who asked me about major, studies, interests on position and subject topic, as well as thought process - all behavioral. The second was with my PM's boss and head of dept. and was basically another behavioral interview on studies, logical thought process, simulation on a specific time, and background.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Palo Alto, CA (took 2+ months)
My interviewers were great, personable, asked solid questions, no "tough" questions. Interestingly, had minimal contact with HR, which probably added to the amount of time the entire process took.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 2 weeks)
Original contact was initiated by a third party recruiter utilizing linked in for potential candidates. Recruiter had telephone interview followed by in-person interview. Afterwards, followed the same pattern at HP -- interviewing with the hiring manager over the phone (about an hour), with a follow-up in-person interview (with the same hiring manager) about a week and a half later. This was for a director level position, so the content of all interviews was essentially the same -- around organization management, development process, employee challenges (conflict resolution, morale, etc). Plenty of time left in every interview for questions -- 20 minutes of every hour, so do your research, or prepare your quickness on your feet. As a side note, counter to what some other director level positions have posted (primarily in the product marketing/management or other functions), this interview in the technical development team did not require any fluffy business preparation ("what's HPs recent stock price"); although a general preparation in HP culture and organization did help in Q&A (ie: knowing what "The HP Way" was).
