Interviewed May 2010 in San Diego, CA (took a day)
The interview process for me was actually very short. I received a phone call from my eventual manager, spoke more about the process of being hired than about the position. He told me what I would be paid if I got the position, and when I confirmed I was interested, he said he would arrange a call with someone from the team.
Later, I received a call from someone on the design team. We chatted for about 10 minutes, and mostly it was him telling me about the job. I can't recall that any questions were even asked, but I was offered the job after the phone call.

Interviewed Dec 2010 in San Diego, CA (took 3 weeks)
Very intensive, consisted of 9 back-to-back interviews with team members from multiple disciplines including R&D, Design, and Marketing. Initial conversations via phone and over coffee were very casual. On-site interviews were friend, but exhaustive. They knew what they were getting if they hired me, before the made the offer.
HP is very collaborative, they are seeking out people with conviction and leadership skills. They wanted someone who could hit the ground running. Probed on relevant experiences and approach to job.

Interviewed May 2011 in San Diego, CA (took 2 weeks)
I submitted my application online and received a call for a phone screening 2-3 weeks later. I was called back later to interview in person at their offices. The process consisted of a 1:1 interview with the hiring manager, then a product design technical interview, followed by an engineering physics interview, and finally a lunch with potential colleagues. They emailed me right after the interview letting me know that I did very well. I followed up according to standard practices. However, a week later, they notified me that they had selected another candidate.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in San Diego, CA (took 2 days)
I heard about the position through an old colleague who encouraged me to apply. I was able to exchange several emails with the hiring manger before the actual HR screening process began.
Once the screening process began, there were several questions such as why do you want to leave your current position, what sets you apart from your current team, in what enviornment do you perform your best etc. Much more in depth than I had initially expected for an intial screening interview. They did ask about how much I knew about the position. I always answer that question somewhat vauge even though I knew quite a bit about it. I kept it to the basics and that was sufficent for the HR recruiter. Who... as I found out was just coming up on a 20th anniversary at HP. Impressive and I think says a lot about the company.
When I was able to meet with the hiring manger turns our there were several positions I was being considered for. They provided a good overview of how the business works and is organized which in a highly complex organization, I appreciated. It did however make it a difficult intervew since there were slightly different skill sets for the positions available. Without knowing which position needed which skills, it made it a little more challenging to appropriately highlight my strengths
I think I'm in the running for at least two of the positions but until they have their hiring freeze lifted, I won't be excpecting to hear much from them. I do appreciate that they were very forthcoming on that front. The plan is to get all the candidates through the formal interview process then when the freeze is lifted, make the hire as quickly as possible. Clearly a very proactive organization which I value and appreciate.
So... it's a waiting game for me for the next several months and because I am currently employed, I'm ok with that.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in San Diego, CA (took a day)
Applied on company job site, contacted by a recruiter-he asked a few basic questions regarding my work experience, education, salary requirements etc. Recruiter sent me a questionnaire, I filled it out sent it back, he contacted me the next day and said the hiring manager would contact me within the next day or so...1.5 days later the hiring manager called me up to set up an interview. The interview consisted of 1:1 with hiring manager-45 mins, a tour-25 mins, a panel interview with 6 SMEs-45 minutes, and then more 1:1 with the hiring manager-90 mins. The hiring manager said there were a bunch of applicants and he would contact me within 2-4 weeks. 2-4 weeks passed and I sent the hiring manager an email to see the job status...he replied I was on the short list to be hired but he filled the position I had applied for so he would contact me when another one opened up that would be good for me...I said thanks....waited a month and followed up...he responded a day later via phone and asked if I could come in to discuss the job. I agreed and went down there and he offered me the job.

Negotiation Details
I had to come down $5,000 from what I wanted, but I took it because it was a good opportunity to grow and learn. I would say to negotiate for what you really want but really read into what they are willing to pay....it helps if you have the experience to back up your demands....

Interviewed Apr 2010 in San Diego, CA (took 2 days)
I enjoyed talking to the interviewers. Their questions were pretty well thought out. The people there are kind of old and a little bit hard to read. Went through about 4 rounds of interviews total: 1 phone interview and 3 separate in-person interviews. They flew me down to San Diego and the campus is pretty spacious.

Reason for Declining
Definitely a good company, but wasn't so sure about the project that I was going to work on and wasn't sure about relocating.
