Interviewed Jan 2008 in Victoria, BC (Canada) (took a day)
There was an open-forum for interviews and mine was conducted in-store. I spoke with the HR rep for about 20 minutes, answering questions about my work ethic, service ethic and commitment to home improvement. Since the job was for a cashier, there was no need to explain my lack of home improvement experience.

Negotiation Details
Given the low-skill job I was applying for, I think the leverage for negotiation belonged to the company. If one had significant experience, they may be able to argue for a 5-10% improvement on starting salary. Keep in mind that companies such as Home Depot furiously watch their margin - you are easily replaceable.
Other Details
I applied In-Person and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Mar 2010 (took 2 weeks)
Worst hiring process I have gone through. It consisted of 4 interviews with successive levels of management; first a phone interview with an HR assistant, then an interview with the department supervisor, followed by an interview with an assistant store manager, and finally an interview with the HR manager.
After passing the phone interview, I went for an interview with the DS but upon arrival was told that he wasn't even scheduled to be in that day. So after waiting for 40 minutes I had an interview with another department's DS. I was immediately handed off to an ASM for a secondary, role playing interview. It took two hours for those two interviews. They then decided that I would be better suited to a different department and brought me in for the final interview/offer with the SM... but he was unavailable for the interview and I met with the HRM instead.
Although the process was terrible and unorganized the people were all friendly and were apologetic.
Tips for success: focus on diversity, customers, friendly and helpful personalities, be genuine and yourself.
