Interviewed Jun 2008 in Carrollton, TX (took a day)
The interview process was simply throwing scenarios at you, and have you respond. ex. a customer says they have dirt in their carpet, what would you suggest to them to get it out? reply: We rent carpet cleaners. (This was one of my questions) they also ask about your avaliability to work, what sort of how-to knowledge you have.

Negotiations? ha. they tell you this is what you're going to get, if you don't like it, there's the door. That's kinda how working there is also.

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Apple Valley, CA (took 2 days)
I applied for the position and was called the next day. I was lucky. From talking with other associates, they had to wait longer sometimes up to four months. I interviewed with the operations manager who said they were interviewing applicants over the next two weeks and I would know within three weeks. I got a call the next to come back for a second interview with the Store Manager. He hired me and sent me to take a drug test.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in New York, NY (took 5 days)
received a phone interview from atlanta at like seven pm at night. they basically just described the job and the pay and asked me two structured questions which were
1. Describe a time you went above and beyond to get the job done.
2. Describe a time where you had to be enthusiastic in a hard situation.
Then the next day I got a call from a supervisor setting up a one on one interview which consisted of 15 to 20 min structured interview in a the training room where she read off a lil booklet she wrote in the answers. A couple days later I had an interview with the store manager which was basically the same thing I went through with the front end manager except slightly more intimidating. Later that night I got a call from the front end manager telling me i was hired.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took a day)
I did an online application and got an email to schedule an interview a few weeks later. Went in, sat down with the Front End Supervisor, who shook my hand, apologized for the cluttered office, and proceeded to tell me all about how they run their stuff at Home Depot, what to expect, etc. Asked me if it sounded like the sort of thing I'd be interested in, when I'd be available, whether I wanted part-time or eventual full-time, etc. Nice guy. I was waiting for the questions but he literally never asked me anything. Gave me a drug test form and told me that if the results passed I'd be called in for a second interview with two of the managers, where we'd discuss pay. Told me they had a pay-scale and not to be afraid to push for higher pay if I felt I merited it. I wore dress pants with a dress shirt and tie, and a black Carhartt coat (I didn't want to appear too formal unless I felt they wanted me too, at which point I would have taken off the coat. I felt like it was pretty informal, so I left the coat on.)
Passed the drug test, and the HR lady called me to schedule orientation. Never did that second interview. I've heard multiple different ways people were interviewed, but every cashier I ran into at two separate stores in two separate districts started at $8.30.
Negotiation Details
Nope. Nothing. I didn't know my pay until my first paycheck. I'd suggest asking before you start orientation.

The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview and a Drug Test.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Mansfield, TX (took a day)
I was a previous employee of The Home Depot. When they called to offer me the interview, they did not ask any interview- type questions. The actual interview started 10 minutes late and only lasted 5 minutes. I was supposed to hear back from them by the end of the day regardless of whether or not I was offered the position, but never did. I later found out that they decided to hire from within the store.
