Interviewed Sep 2010 in Canton, MI (took 2 weeks)
Corporate called me and held a phone interview which took about 20 minutes. They asked a couple questions about prior customer service experience, how I would handle certain situations, and leadership examples. Then they told me that if they liked me I would be called by the Home Depot store I applied to. I got a call a week later from the store, we set up an interview for 5 days later. Went to the interview, was asked almost same questions I was asked on the phone. Then did a role play with the manger on customer service. Then they told me that they would call me. I got a call a few days later to come in for a second interview the following week. I go in and they offered me a position.

Negotiation Details
When they offered me a position, I had to take a drug test that day. They went over hours, pay, and benefits. They asked me if I was okay with them. Then they said if I pass the drug test they will call me when the results come in. I go to the drug test, take it and leave. I get a call 3 days later from home depot saying I passed and I had to go to orientation the following week. Then I started my schedule. I didn't negotiate pay or hours. They were firm with what they gave me.

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Macomb, MI (took 1 week)
Applied Via the Home Depot Website. Very easy process and didn't take very long considering other online applications that are out there. Filled out my information employment history, skills, etc. Then you were allowed to filter the available locations you would like to work at and select the different skills that you have and/or would like to learn and based on this information you are thrown into a big hat and hope for a phone call. I received a phone call a few days later asking if i would like to come in for a 1-on-1 interview for a position in the paint department. the person who called informing me of the position was not the same person that i would be interviewing with and could not give me any additional information about the position requirements. I was interviewed by nice lady who had been working the same paint department shift supervisor position for 8 years(First clue about advancement opportunity). After about a 45 minute interview consisting of preformed questions such as, "have you ever been faced with an upset customer and what did you do to rectify the situation?" I was told that the interviewer liked what she heard and was considering me for the position. still not having any clue what the position entails i began to ask questions pertaining to what my job duties would be. after a phone call and a 45+ minute interview i finally was told that i was being interviewed for a part-time and temporary position.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
after Asking what home depot considers part-time(anywhere from 15-40+hrs/week) and what the possibility of being hired to a non-seasonal employee would be (slim to none) i politely said thank you for the opportunity to interview for the position and left the tiny 5x5ft office right next to the bathrooms that was being shared by 6 different supervisors.
only positive experience from this was the interviewing practice.

Interviewed May 2007 in Detroit, MI (took a day)
They sent a group of regualr associates out to the Redford center to interview for HR jobs. They first took us in and made us take basically like a scantron type of test and it was timed. Then after that we went in to interview with 2 people each and they asked questions that were pretty hard. They wanted me to rattle off different sections of the Civil Rights Act (I know basic one's since I have a Bachelors in HR) but they wanted it word for word. They also asked how would I handle someone from a different race? Just made me wonder why I would treat them any different since I treat everyone the same??? Then they never called or sent anything with the results or any feedback.
