Interviewed Apr 2012 in Lafayette, LA (took 2 weeks)
I applied for the job online and in three days I received a call from the HR department for a phone interview. The woman asked very standard interview questions like name a time that I went above and beyond for a customer and how did I handle a situation with an angry customer. I must have done okay because in another three days I received a call to schedule an in-store interview. I scheduled the interview a week later and asked for the appropriate attire for the interview. When I arrived to the store they told me they didn't have me in the computer system for that day so I had to wait almost an hour while the manager printed out my application and looked over it. The woman who interviewed me was very nice. She had a genuine smile and made sure I didn't feel uncomfortable during the whole interview. I ultimately wasn't offered the job because my availability wasn't broad enough, but overall the interview was very easygoing and I got good practice for interviews I will have in the future.

Interviewed Apr 2012 (took 2 days)
I met with the Ops manager and Front End manager for a group interview. They were very organized, thorough and upfront about the process and the position. Initially I interviewed on the phone with a representative in Atlanta. She prepared notes for the two people I spoke with so that had more information than just my application. They asked me 6 basic questions, conferred with each other outside of the interview room and asked me three more follow-up questions. They were very upfront and had informed me that some very qualified internal applicants were being considered for the position. When they finally told me that they had selected their internal candidate, they complimented me on my presentation and offered to re-submit my application for other area stores to consider. They also suggested that I apply for other positions which better accommodated my skill set. All in all, it was a very good experience and I learned a lot!

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Orland Park, IL (took a day)
Woman who interviewed me made me wait for a half an hour before interviewing me. All she did was ask me questions and write down answers. She asked me to stop a few times while she was writing. Seemed very distant. Not surprised that I did not get an offer.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took 2 weeks)
Got a call from an 866 number regarding my application. I applied for many positions online, Head Cashier is what I was called for. Had a brief phone interview with the usual questions, dealing with difficult people, going above and beyond for a customer, why do I want to work at Home Depot. Got an in-store interview about 2 weeks later. Really great people I interviewed with. First the front line guy then the store manager. Both were very personable and I think I would really have liked working with them, they seemed fair and level. Usual questions again - difficult customers, above and beyond customer service provided, a "walk through" with a scenario of a customer coming in the store looking confused. Hey- talk with them! seems logical. Home Depot is all about exceptional customer service and these guys took pride in that. The only issue was that no one mentioned pay or that it was a temporary position. They liked me and wanted to take me on full-time though and were going to go the extra mile on that. Unfortunately when the pay was mentioned it was very low- $9.81. I simply could not afford to work for them and I'm sorry that they pay so little.

the hiring process was very relaxed. I was called in for an interview which was conducted with the operations manager, then i had another interview with the store manager. I was told right on the spot that i was hired, and I filled out all of my paperwork and took the drug test that same day.
