Interviewed Jan 2012 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
Initial interivew was via phone with a lower level manager. They asked basic questions and explained the position. In person interview was rescheduled twice. Overall the compensation was decent but as many explain, it appears they place high demands on their people and may not consider a work like balance. Just my opinion.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in McKinney, TX (took 5 days)
Filled out an application on Sunday. Received a phone interview call on Monday (all automated from their Georgia call center). Within 5 minutes of hanging up from the phone interview I got an automated call saying that they wanted to set up an in store interview. Was transferred on the automated call to an automated scheduler which told me that they had no interview dates available yet. I was then transferred to an operator who also said the same thing. I was told that they would call or email me when they had dates in their system. By Wednesday I hadn't heard anything so I decided to call back just to make sure I wasn't being left in the dark, since it was them who initiated the in person interview scheduling. Sure enough they had dates available for the following Monday. I scheduled a morning interview. I showed up for my interview and was escorted back with two other candidates for other positions. I was interviewed by the assistant store manager and he was assisted by a department lead supervisor who took all of the notes. The questions were all from an interview questionaire. They were really nice and friendly. I was just myself with them. Most of the questions were customer service based and basically the customer always comes first. I answered all the questions except the one about describing something about my job that I would not enjoy doing everyday. I paused and said I wasn't sure. They told me it was okay not to have an answer. I was offered a job on the spot and then had to complete a drug screen and background check. I am waiting to start my orientation.

Negotiation Details
No negotiation. They offered one rate and it was take it or leave it. Althought it was a part time temp position and they said that they usually hire all of their temps if they don't leave. I am planning on asking for a higher rate if I get to that point. After they know my abilities, etc.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took 2 weeks)
Got a call from an 866 number regarding my application. I applied for many positions online, Head Cashier is what I was called for. Had a brief phone interview with the usual questions, dealing with difficult people, going above and beyond for a customer, why do I want to work at Home Depot. Got an in-store interview about 2 weeks later. Really great people I interviewed with. First the front line guy then the store manager. Both were very personable and I think I would really have liked working with them, they seemed fair and level. Usual questions again - difficult customers, above and beyond customer service provided, a "walk through" with a scenario of a customer coming in the store looking confused. Hey- talk with them! seems logical. Home Depot is all about exceptional customer service and these guys took pride in that. The only issue was that no one mentioned pay or that it was a temporary position. They liked me and wanted to take me on full-time though and were going to go the extra mile on that. Unfortunately when the pay was mentioned it was very low- $9.81. I simply could not afford to work for them and I'm sorry that they pay so little.

The interview process was a good one it was fair and balanced. The hiring process was a little clunky but that is to be expected from such a large compnay.

Simple process. Even with no sales experience, they want you to be able to relate to people and know the products within your department. Be prepared to explain how you are most qualified by answering merchandise questions posed by manager.
