Houlihan Lokey Financial Analyst Interview (student candidate)

Posted Apr 20, 2010

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Chicago, IL Apr 2010 – Reviewed Apr 20, 2010

Interview Details – Phone interview with an upperlevel person in the office. Majority of the interview was detailed finance questions. The questions started out pretty basic (like "what sort of statements would you need if you were asked to value a private company?") and then got pretty specific as i continued to answer. Questions included how would you solve for NOPLAT, how are the financial statements related, what valuation methods would you use? why? explain CAPM. What is the WACC? What values go into calculating WACC and how do you find them? Pretty technical but not too bad if you're prepared.

Interview Questions

  • First Question: What statements would you need in order to value a privately held company   View Answer
  • Last question: If using comps to value this company, how would past transaction multiples of public acquisitions differ from private acquisitions   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I don't want to work 80 hour weeks, I'd rather have a life. The money wasn't worth it.

Other Details - I applied through campus recruiting and the process took a day.
