  critical of your work -- simply as a result of political pressure, trying to deflect criticism?

Face-to-face, customer is always right -- accept the criticsm; Separately, go "up-the-line" to provide feedback at higher levels of customer organization, with balanced view of the situation. This requires asking for assisstance from my own senior management
