Manager Interview

Manager
Chicago, IL

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group in October 2013.

Interview Details – Very nice folks that seemed like they would be great to work for.

Interview Question – Nothing comes to mind, standard star interview types of questions. More specific to personality, where have you been, what is your experience.   Answer Question

Analyst Interview

I applied through college or university and interviewed at Huron Consulting Group.

Interview Details – Huron was very open about the interview process: there was a first round 30 minute behavioral interview with 2 questions, where the questions were your very standard behavioral questions. My interviewer was extremely friendly and not intimidating at all, employees at Huron really try and make you feel comfortable and not intimidated while interviewing. I heard back that night, and was told when my second round would be. The second round was a 45 minute case (split between interviewer-led qualitative case where they just want to see your thought process and a numerical problem which was not overly challenging) and a 45 minute behavioral with 4 questions, similar to the first round. Heard back that I got the final round two days after the second round.

The final round was at the Chicago office. They take you out to breakfast (or lunch if you do the afternoon interview) where you talk to some current analysts, and then there are two 45 minute discussion based interviews. Super calm interviews, nothing stressful. The people are just so kind and just want to talk to you. Everyone seems happy with their job and are extremely engaging. Generally great company.

Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you solved a difficult problem, the steps you went about solving it, and what the result was.   Answer Question

Associate Consultant Interview

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4 days - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group in September 2013.

Interview Details – Was contacted within a couple of days of referral. They are very quick. Phone interview was a couple standard behavioral questions. "Discuss a time you had to solve a very complicated problem and the steps you took to work through it" was one. They also asked the standard, "Why Consulting? Why healthcare? Why Huron?"

Interview Question – Talk about a time you had to go above and beyond expectations   Answer Question

Consulting Analyst Interview

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group in October 2013.

Interview Details – The Round 1 interview consisted of a 30 minute phone interview. The first two questions were based on 'core competencies' sought by the firm. The following questions were more traditional such as why consulting, why Huron, and are you bothered by the travel schedule. At the end, there was an opportunity to ask a few questions of the interviewer.

Interview Question – (Roughly, "At Huron we value dedication. This is how we define it. Tell me about a time when your dedication to a project went above and beyond.")   Answer Question

Very Easy Interview

Director Interview

Director
Kansas City, KS

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group in March 2013.

Interview Details – Submitted resume to a Managing Director that I knew. Contacted very quickly by internal recruiter. Had several phone interviews that were normal, nothing exciting or challenging. Flew me to a client site for a face-to-face interview. Offer came quickly and was fair. I accepted offer and started job after 2-weeks notice.

Interview Question – No technical questions. They more or less talked about their day-to-day and engagement expectations. Biggest question was how I handled physician preference items.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Their offer was very fair and I accepted. Looking back, I could have squeaked another $5K out of the negotiations, but didn't want to get into it. I graciously accepted their offer.

Consulting Analyst Interview

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group in September 2013.

Interview Details – On campus recruiting. Applied and got offered an interview about a week later. It may have helped that I spoke to an associate at the job fair, their information session and also emailed the recruiter. The interview was fairly simple, first round is always solely behavioral. I was asked 2 similar questions that revolved around a difficult situation and what I did to reach a solution. The interviewer was very interested in seeing a step-by-step process of solving said issue and what my role was in this process.

Interview Question – "Why Huron?"   Answer Question

Difficult Interview

Life Sciences/Higher Education Analyst (Experienced) Interview

Life Sciences/Higher Education Analyst (Experienced)
New York, NY

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group in April 2013.

Interview Details – My interview process moved really quickly in the Higher Education/Life Sciences practice. I only had two days’ notice for my interview and I received an offer the next business day. Experienced analyst candidates (1-3 years of exp. post-college or before/after grad school) need to prepare a business plan and slide deck and present the slide deck to senior staff as part of the case response. I was not asked to complete a math question. Industry knowledge is very helpful for the case, but they also want to see your thought process. Campus hire analysts just need to walk through a case focused on process.

Interview Question – The case was not particularly difficult but during the presentation the senior staff will ask lots of tough questions and put you on the spot. For example, they asked me how much my case solution would cost and how long it would take to implement.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – They would not negotiate my salary, saying there was a cap on Analyst pay. I was not particularly thrilled with the offer but accepted the job.

Analyst Interview

Raleigh, NC

I applied through college or university - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group in October 2013.

Interview Details – The hiring and interview process is a three round process. I was a college recruit, and the first rounds take place on day 1 (only behavioral). You really have to stand out here because they are interviewing a lot of people. You will be called back for second rounds the following day. The second round has 1 case and 1 behavioral. Then you will be notified if you will be going to their home office (Atlanta) for their final rounds. If you get this then you practically have the offer.

Interview Question – What is a time that you had to use your resources to solve a problem and what steps did you take to solve it?   Answer Question

Difficult Interview

Consulting Analyst Interview

Consulting Analyst
Chicago, IL

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting Group.

Interview Details – The hiring process was rigorous, rather rushed though. Everything happened within a span of two weeks or so. First phone interview, typical behavioral questions, be prepared though, very big on STAR method. Got a call the next day to set up final interview in Chicago. Intense day, started with a Lunch then 4 back to back interviews of 45 minutes each, the main thing is to be personable and ask good questions, that is what they really want, really talk up Huron, do your research. One case study(capacity and how to manage it), AR questions, 4 behavioral questions, 2 informal sessions just to feel you out. Got a call the next day

Interview Question – The business case is about a call center and wait times. What to do in order to reduce the times what info you need to gather, what comparissons would you make, who to present the info to and all that . They just want the thought process, there is no right or wrong answer   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They dont negotiate for analyst positions, I tried...It was an ok offer though
