I applied through college or university and interviewed at Huron Consulting.
Interview Details –
Huron was very open about the interview process: there was a first round 30 minute behavioral interview with 2 questions, where the questions were your very standard behavioral questions. My interviewer was extremely friendly and not intimidating at all, employees at Huron really try and make you feel comfortable and not intimidated while interviewing. I heard back that night, and was told when my second round would be. The second round was a 45 minute case (split between interviewer-led qualitative case where they just want to see your thought process and a numerical problem which was not overly challenging) and a 45 minute behavioral with 4 questions, similar to the first round. Heard back that I got the final round two days after the second round.
The final round was at the Chicago office. They take you out to breakfast (or lunch if you do the afternoon interview) where you talk to some current analysts, and then there are two 45 minute discussion based interviews. Super calm interviews, nothing stressful. The people are just so kind and just want to talk to you. Everyone seems happy with their job and are extremely engaging. Generally great company.
Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you solved a difficult problem, the steps you went about solving it, and what the result was. Answer Question
I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting in October 2013.
Interview Details – The Round 1 interview consisted of a 30 minute phone interview. The first two questions were based on 'core competencies' sought by the firm. The following questions were more traditional such as why consulting, why Huron, and are you bothered by the travel schedule. At the end, there was an opportunity to ask a few questions of the interviewer.
Interview Question – (Roughly, "At Huron we value dedication. This is how we define it. Tell me about a time when your dedication to a project went above and beyond.") Answer Question
I applied through college or university - interviewed at Huron Consulting in October 2013.
Interview Details – The hiring and interview process is a three round process. I was a college recruit, and the first rounds take place on day 1 (only behavioral). You really have to stand out here because they are interviewing a lot of people. You will be called back for second rounds the following day. The second round has 1 case and 1 behavioral. Then you will be notified if you will be going to their home office (Atlanta) for their final rounds. If you get this then you practically have the offer.
Interview Question – What is a time that you had to use your resources to solve a problem and what steps did you take to solve it? Answer Question
I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting in April 2013.
Interview Details – My interview process moved really quickly in the Higher Education/Life Sciences practice. I only had two days’ notice for my interview and I received an offer the next business day. Experienced analyst candidates (1-3 years of exp. post-college or before/after grad school) need to prepare a business plan and slide deck and present the slide deck to senior staff as part of the case response. I was not asked to complete a math question. Industry knowledge is very helpful for the case, but they also want to see your thought process. Campus hire analysts just need to walk through a case focused on process.
Interview Question – The case was not particularly difficult but during the presentation the senior staff will ask lots of tough questions and put you on the spot. For example, they asked me how much my case solution would cost and how long it would take to implement. View Answer
Negotiation Details – They would not negotiate my salary, saying there was a cap on Analyst pay. I was not particularly thrilled with the offer but accepted the job.
Very Easy Interview
I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting in March 2013.
Interview Details – Submitted resume to a Managing Director that I knew. Contacted very quickly by internal recruiter. Had several phone interviews that were normal, nothing exciting or challenging. Flew me to a client site for a face-to-face interview. Offer came quickly and was fair. I accepted offer and started job after 2-weeks notice.
Interview Question – No technical questions. They more or less talked about their day-to-day and engagement expectations. Biggest question was how I handled physician preference items. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Their offer was very fair and I accepted. Looking back, I could have squeaked another $5K out of the negotiations, but didn't want to get into it. I graciously accepted their offer.
I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Huron Consulting in September 2013.
Interview Details – On campus recruiting. Applied and got offered an interview about a week later. It may have helped that I spoke to an associate at the job fair, their information session and also emailed the recruiter. The interview was fairly simple, first round is always solely behavioral. I was asked 2 similar questions that revolved around a difficult situation and what I did to reach a solution. The interviewer was very interested in seeing a step-by-step process of solving said issue and what my role was in this process.
Interview Question – "Why Huron?" Answer Question
I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at Huron Consulting in September 2013.
Interview Details –
This is very competitive experience. First they interview all who apply. The 25 minutes first interview was behavioral and it encompasses these questions.
1. Tell me a situation where you went above and beyond to solve a problem and showed commitment to a corporation.
2. Tell me a situation where you used creative solutions to solve a problem..
3. Tell me about a situation where your team member was not contributing and you had to pul some extra weight. (Be careful here as this is a trick question - try to say that you have always had great team mates and play down the situation).
4. They will ask you about your interest.
5. Why Huron
6. Why Healthcare and Reveune cycle. Be specific and put it along side how its suppose to reduce the cost and thus help hospitals save money and then actually save the patient money.
Interview Question – Just know that you will be traveling every week and you are expected to have dinner with your coworkers. They used the STAR method as in S = Situation, T = Task, A = Action, R = Result. They will ask you behavioral question and ask you to answer them so please be aware that you should frame your responses in the STAR method to advance forward. I didn't make it after 1st round since I really didn't research the company or the role as I didn't want it, but wanted the interview experience. This was at Vanderbilt University. This is not a great place for experienced hire, but it seems a good start for Entry Level position. No calculator was needed as this was primarily behavioral. Answer Question
