Interviewed Apr 2007 in Jakarta (Indonesia) (took 2 days)
I applied to IBM through job advertising in newspaper, then HR people invited me to attend selection processes in Jakarta. First I have the test which consisted ofI IPAT and writing essay in english. After passing these steps the HR people invited me for interview. During 1st day interview, I have 4 different managers as the interviewers. Basically they asked me about why choose IBM, how your background fit with our company, what do you see yourself in 5 years, how long will you plan to stay at IBM, what is your specific interest from various business line in IBM. There is also one manager who gave me article about technology concepts and then he gave me 10 minutes to prepare for presentation. The final interview is with Country Manager Services, it is more like are you ready to work overtime, are you ready to learn a lot of things in short timeframe, tell me about yourself. Last is negotiation process however since I joined as fresh graduate then IBM has already had standard package for me.

Interviewed Feb 2007 (took 1 week)
I worked for the team before as an intern student so the interview process for a full-time position was easier. The interview took about 20 min, mostly reviewing what I have done before, find out what I would like to do, and my career goal within IBM. The decision factors were mostly based on my previous work for the team and my personality (ie. a quick-learner, good problem solving skills, ability to work independently, etc...).

Interviewed Jun 2007 in New York, NY (took 2 days)
The one question you are certain to be asked is going to somehow relate to travel such as "Would you be willing to relocate?". They will ask this question even if the job you are applying for is local. IBM expects people to be willing to change and adapt in many ways and a negative answer on this question will hurt your chances. Most "long time" IBMers I know have changed assignments and work locations many times and that is what IBM likes. If you do not want to travel or relocate then you might want to consider another company to work for.
They also like self-starters on education as they have a great deal of online training programs for employees and they want you to use them aggressively. Some local managers will give you time to do this but most will tell you self-development is an option so do it on your own time. None the less they want you to do lots of self-development because expanded skill sets = expanded placement potential if they need you somewhere else. If you do not want to be constantly taking online classes off the clock then you might want to consider another company to work for.

Interviewed Jan 2007 (took 4+ weeks)
A friend asked me to send them a CV, two weeks later i got a call from a manager, we agreed on a date for a personal interview. The interview consisted of some pretty basic tests, like understanding a piece of C code, some general questions on computer hardware & software, and translating some text.

Interviewed Jun 2007 in Moscow (Russia) (took 2+ months)
The process for technical professionals usually takes really much time. In my case it took almost one year between the interview for recruiter from hiring agency and job offer. In fact, I have passed three interviews: by phone with agency recruiter, face-to-face meeting at the agency office, face-to-face interview with my future local manager and foreign manager together. I had to wait about 9 months between the 2nd and the 3rd interview. It may differ for different people, but it's quite typical for this company.
The interview process was quite comfortable for me in both cases, it did not take too much time. People are polite and very open. They do not promise something, that they can not fulfil then.
"Dark horses" with high growth potential are rarely hired here. If the company can not find a person with particular skills, HR simply closes this vacancy. The company does invest big money in development of skills, but a platform (experience and practical skills) is usually required.

Negotiation Details
Do not try to negotiate too much, managers do not have lots of flexibilities. I would advice to ask about options that could be offered, in most of cases you will get the full answer without any cheating. And with no chance to negotiate something.

I got the interview through a Staffing Agency and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview and a 1:1 Interview.
