Difficult Interview

Technical Specialist Interview

Technical Specialist
Dubuque, IA

I interviewed at IBM in August 2012.

Interview Details – Interview was done on Skype with the manager. Started off with very basic questions and went more into technical topics. Do NOT put anything on your resume that you can't back up in the interview. It depends on who interviews you, but they can be very thorough. Interviewers at IBM are very smart and will be able to tell right away if you are lying. Prepare for the interview by thinking about your responses to the general questions that are normally asked in every interview, but focus on technical questions.

Interview Question – Technical questions can be very difficult, depending on what position you're applying for.   Answer Question

Associate Partner Interview

Associate Partner
Washington, DC

I applied through other source and the process took a day - interviewed at IBM in May 2010.

Interview Details – Was hired as a full-time employee after consulting to IBM for two years. Interview process was more of a formality as the hiring manager knew me/my work and had created the description for a new position based on my skill set. Overall, the process was very structured and professionally conducted.

Interview Question – None - had worked closely with hiring manager who wanted me on board as soon as possible so he had no incentive to make the process difficult.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Offer was 20% more than a competing offer from another IT company.

IT Consultant Interview

IT Consultant

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at IBM.

Interview Details – College hire - IBM came to university and did three back to back interviews about 30 minutes each. First two interviews were basically in reference to my resume and why I think I am a good fit for the company - very basic. The third interview shaped more like a "how would you handle xyz" situation.

Interview Question – The most difficult question was answering the "how would you handle xyz" situation. It helps to prepare yourself for case studies and thinking on your toes. Be sure to ask questions about the situation, and say how you came to you conclusion.   Answer Question
