Interviewed Oct 2010 (took 1 week)
I applied for a position via the IBM website. About ten days later the hiring manager called and talked to me briefly about my resume and my interest. We then scheduled two technical phone interviews. The phone interviews were very technical but informal. We went over what was on my resume and they asked technical questions to gauge my knowledge/competency. They were good tough questions, no gotchas and no asking really obscure stuff. They just expected you to be able to backup your stated experience with knowledge that someone with that experience should have gained. After nailing the phone interviews, I was scheduled for on onsite interview the next week. I met the hiring manager and two more on the technical team. Again the interview was highly technical but relaxed. After the technical component, I met 1:1 with the hiring manager to go into details about the position and what was expected. I think a couple of personality test questions were asked but nothing really stands out.
Two days later my references called to let me know they had been contacted by the hiring manager.
A week after the onsite interview, I was contacted by HR and given a link and directions on how to fill out a formal application/security questionare for the background checks.
Another two weeks later I received a formal job offer.
The entire process from the first call from the hiring manager to the completion of the background checks and extention of a job offer took about four weeks.

We had discussed salary during the final 1:1 with the hiring manager and, without promising anything, I was told they would see what they could do to match that salary. The offer matched what I was asking for so I didn't have to negotiate.
