Difficult Interview

Visual Merchandiser Interview

Visual Merchandiser

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at IKEA in June 2010.

Interview Details – One on one interview followed by interview activity making displays in a private room while timed. If you are unable to answer the questions or comfortably implement the activity; this job is not for you. The whole experience was positive, but challenging. It took two or three weeks before I heard anything and an offer was made.

Interview Question – What power tools do you use?   Answer Question

Very Easy Interview

Carts Co-Worker Interview

Carts Co-Worker
West Chester, OH

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at IKEA in September 2010.

Interview Details – I filled out an application online followed by a phone interview. This location wasn't very organized in this part of the process. It may take two or three tries to get a phone interview.

If you manage to win a face to face interview and give good answers to interview questions, you've got the job. The interview is a formality. Carts has an extremely high turnover rate and they are desperate for new people.

Interview Question – Document your customer service experience from past jobs if you can.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation.

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at IKEA.

Interview Details – I applied online. Did a phone interview with the US recruiter. Then had to interview at the store. It was a group interview that was two hours long. The first hour of the interview was devoted to questions. Each person answered about two. The second hour of the interview we were put into groups and had to build a piece of furniture out of play-doh. It was pretty fun overall.

Interview Question – What do you know about Ikea?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Not able to negotiate. The pay started at a specific amount.

Ikea Cashier Interview

Ikea Cashier
Tampa, FL

I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at IKEA in February 2011.

Interview Details – I was joining an IKEA that was currently being built up. So it was a little different from the average new hire.I applies online, and after a while I had gotten a call for a group interview. I was called to a temp office, and I knew little about the company beyond it sold furniture, the temp office gave little Idea what to expect. Once everyone arrived they called us into a room and divided us into groups of four, with a manager taking notes of one particular group. They told us about the company and all it offered etc. Showed us clips of what to expect on opening, there was anticipation for a large group excited for the new store. Then we were asked to stand up and say a little about ourselves. They then gave us a group exercise asking a question with no really right answer, my guess is to determine how we talked out answers with the others, not really concerned for the answers. Then we were asked to move around tables to another group of 4 and asked to do another activity, this time build a paper tower. Again to see how you worked with the others. After that we got called out in groups and divided into one on one interviews with the managers taking notes. After a month or two I finally received a called back asking me to come in for a orientation and they would like me to work for them.

Interview Question – The one on one interview was pretty standard stuff. The biggest surprise was how the group interview went, with the question and tower building, was fun.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – As I was just looking for a part time job with little experience prior, I did little negotiations and joined.
