Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Frisco, TX Mar 2011 – Reviewed Dec 13, 2012
Interview Details – I applied for the position online on the IKEA website. I was then contacted by phone for a phone interview. After the phone interview, we set up an interview at the store. My interview went very smoothly. I met with an employee in HR, and two managers, one who was managing the department I was applying for. They were all very friendly and welcoming.
Interview Question – It's hard to remember, but I believe that a difficult question that I was asked was what I expected to accomplish in this job. At IKEA, people move up the ladder, and there are many positions available to contribute to at this company. I am a student working towards a degree, so I didn't think I would be working there for long, but for someone who sees this as a career, it's very tangible and lucrative as long as you work hard and take all of the training classes offered. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I didn't negotiate anything, because this was retail and an hourly wage, I accepted the base pay.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Draper, UT Apr 2011 – Reviewed Oct 11, 2012
Interview Details – I hope you are ready for the long haul. The hiring process I went through started with the online app which was then followed up by a 15 minute phone interview. If you make it through that, you will have your initial interview at the store and then a third with more senior management. You may or may not have a tour early in the morning, and if you don't see yourself getting up early, try another department- Logs is not for you!
Interview Question – They ask all the general questions. What made you want to apply, why do you like IKEA, what skills do you have that would make you a good fit for the position. View Answer
Negotiation Details – IKEA has base pay rates and negotiation never really seems like an option when applying for a retail position. IF they like you will sign your offer letter with the pay they will give you starts around $10.29 or $12.29 if they want you to drive equipment for them (you earn the extra money believe me)
No Offer – Interviewed in Baltimore, MD – Reviewed Oct 9, 2012
Interview Details –
Submitted app online, recieved email to call in for a phone iterview about one week later. Called left message. Hiring Manager called me back the next day and asked me three question.
1) why ikea
2) describe a time you had to work part as a team, what was your role and what was the outcome
3) describe a time you had to work with someone different from you
Then he stated someone would call me back in 7-10 days
The next evening I got a phone call asking me to come in for an in person interview which was scheduled for the following day. When I arrived I filled out a paper app which included a background and credit consent form. I interviewed with two dept. managers, very very nice ladies. The began with "tell me about yourself". They asked about 5 behavioral questions, told me the pay for this position and asked me if I had any questions. Before I left they gave me a copy of the benefits provided to employees and said someone would contact me 3-5 days (i'm assuming after the results of the background and credit check returned). Recieved email today stating I didnt get the job
Interview Question – Describe a time you defused an irate customer Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Hicksville, NY – Reviewed Sep 15, 2012
Interview Details – The hiring process is terribly wrong. It's starts with a phone screen after you apply about values near and dear to IKEA. Previous job experience. Then if your selected it goes to the store level for a secondary phone screen and if accepted again, 2-3 interviews are conducted by various managers, usually an department manager, then possibly an HR rep or another manager in the building.
Interview Question – Which of these IKEA values best represents you? Answer Question
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Bloomington, MN Jun 2010 – Reviewed Sep 9, 2012
Interview Details – Interview was conducted by two department managers, one who would be my direct manager and another from a related department. The interview consisted of approximately 60 minutes of questions and answers. There seemed to be a focus on problem-solving, both conceptually and in past employment. Interviewers took turns asking questions, each taking the time to write while the other was talking. It was clear from the content of the interview that the company is very interested in finding people who fit the Ikea "culture". While this seems to have a positive effect on the overall quality of the work they perform, it seems as though it might be easy for a potential employee to be too-quickly cast as a bad fit.
Interview Question – Can you give me an example of how you have handled a situation in which a customer has clearly not been given good service and how you defused the situation? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – The wage offered was below my minimum requirements
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in East Palo Alto, CA Mar 2011 – Reviewed Aug 30, 2012
Interview Details – The interview process is really casual, I felt overdressed in a suit, but it's better to be over then under. They ask the same basic questions of any frontline contact position. Be prepared to give examples of teamwork, how you handle difficult situations, and ownership. The hiring process is relatively fast, you do a phone interview for about 5 mins , if you pass they schedule you for an in store interview. If you pass that , they will contact you within 2 to 3 days.
Interview Question – I may have been over qualified, which did bring up some concerns if I would be a good fit. The job market was pretty dry at the time. So my advice is if you have too much experience, dumb it down. A job is a job and you need to provide for yourself and your family, Answer Question
