Interviewed Apr 2012 in New York, NY (took a day)
The position was an entry level Client Services Support role, however the interviewer asked questions which a beginner would never understand in regards to the Fixed Income market. In addition, the salary being offered for the role was ridiculously low for NYC standards. There was an IQ test component which was completely unnecessary and a waste of time. I guess this company wants to hire geniuses and pay them next to nothing on top of it. On top of that they throw out a contractual agreement which restricts you from working for any of their clients or competitors (which pretty much covers all the major Banks). It felt like a sweatshop, which is great for experience but absolutely horrible for growth.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in New York, NY (took a day)
An IQ and skills test right off the bat. After that, an 1 on 1 interview heavily focused on bonds and other financial products.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in New Delhi (India) (took 1 week)
First I should tell you that I heard good things about ion trading so my expectations were really high. They started with a brief telephonic discussion about my skills and current requirements with the organization. Then they called me to their office premises. There first they started with Java skill test. Test was decent, around 15 questions for an hour. It went well, followed by an interview. I must say interview discussion was pathetic. Interviewer tried to discuss stuff written in my resume and tried to deep dive in. The problem was he was not having any clue of my skills and was also not accepting my answer. It went really bad and finally I have to ask him to give my resume back and finish off the process.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 5 days)
Was contacted by a recruiter for a support position. Had to do a pre-screen test by writing some functions in the programming language of your preference and emailing it back to them. I was then sent to do an in-person interview at their Toronto offices. The interview process involved the hiring manager and one of their senior support analysts. Was first asked general interview questions ("Tell me about yourself, etc."), then given 1 hour to do a written test consisting of writing several functions, debugging code, and a brain teaser involving stacks. They reviewed the test results in front of me, then proceeded to ask general technical questions. After some final general questions about the company, the interview was over.
The next day was told they weren't interested. Terrible interview process which took over 2 hours for a essentially a technical support position. Was never asked to do this much testing by any other company.
Also note that the Toronto office is located on the 56th floor so you will have to get used to having your ears pop. Would not recommend.

Interviewed Jul 2011 (took 3 weeks)
Initial phone interview lasted approximately 20 minutes and was very fair and straightforward. It consisted of simple background questions regarding my education and past experience, and of course my reasons for applying to the position. The 1:1 interview was a week or two after this at the company offices. This involved a more in depth discussion of my background, and more intensive questioning regarding my reasons for choosing the company and the position, and specifically why I believed I was suited to the role. During this discussion I was permitted to ask as many questions about the company and role as I pleased. It was quite an open dialogue, and I felt that I was allowed to express my preparation for the interview in a relatively free form and open way, which suited me. About three days after this, I was offered a final 1:1 interview, which I declined for personal reasons, but I would have happily accepted a position with this company had the opportunity arisen.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in New York, NY (took 2 days)
It was a very fair and laid back interview. I was interviewed by the hiring manager and it was very straight forward questions. "What do we do here at ion trading", "your strengths and weaknesses", "why you believe ion trading would be a good fit for you". Be sure to know their "core" business deals in fixed income. The website gives just about every asset class, but fixed income is the major focus although the do deal with some commodities and equities. Keeping with fixed incomes be sure to be prepared to answer questions about bonds. I was a bit taken aback that this was expected to be very knowledgable with otherwise I would have brushed up on it before the interview. Know what a bond is, positives and negatives of using bonds, what purchase price of a bond is. Also, know what accrued interest is and be prepared to give examples. Most of us with business related degrees (myself included) have gone over all of this information, but if you have been out of school for a while be sure to go over this information again. Finally, the "logic" test. I had no idea what kind of test I would be given, but after taking the test it is an IQ test that you can prepare for online by typing in keyword IQ test or employment IQ test. Was not hard however I spent too much time on a few questions and did not finish the test before time was up. Practicing an online IQ test will ensure you do really well and I found one IQ test that actually tells you why certain questions you answer are right or wrong so you do not make the same mistake. I hope this helped and best of luck :)

Interviewed May 2010 in Delhi (India) (took 2+ weeks)
I applied thru Nauri.com. Received a call from HR. HR explained whole process in details. First it was technical interview on phone. Interviewer was a senior developer. He asked good questions on language (Java) and focused on OOPS, design skills, design patterns, threading etc. Next was written test - a good one but there are few confusing questions. Next was one on eone interview with Noida developers. Pretty lengthy - they covered almost all aspects - OOPS, designing, threading, collections, database, OS, etc. Next was another technical round through VC. I did not have prior expereince with VC. Therefore, it was a tough expereince. Voice was not very clear. I had to struggle. But guys on other end were supportively and I think they understood my position. Final round was interview with Delhi Director. It was more a personality check with focus to check your stability and sutability for company. I was provided with all important details about ION in this interview. Overall it was very lengthy process. I am happy as I cleared all the rounds. Feel proud of myself!
Negotiation Details
No negotiations. They offer you their best in first attempt itself. I was told that my current salary and expectation will not play any role in deciding my salary at ION. It's decided based on my performance in test and interviews, my expereince, and my educational background etc

Interviewed May 2010 in Chicago, IL (took 5 days)
The first interview was an IQ test, 20+ questions in a 30 minute time frame. If you're good with IQ tests, you will find this test to be a breeze like I did. The second interview was quite an experience for me. It was the first time I've ever been interviewed by people in another city via a video conference call. This unsettled me a little, but I'm not sure if will hurt or help me. The interview consisted of fairly standard questions, plus some skills questions (ex. what are the risks with this, what would you do in this situation, what does this term mean...). Its hard not to do well on the standard questions, but I recommend people prepare for the skills questions so you don't have regrets like I do. The questions they asked me were EASY! I know the answers, but on the spot I didn't perform well.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in New York, NY (took 3 days)
scheduling of the interview was speedy, interviewed with 2-3 people per day with questions about previous work experience. some interviewers provided information about the company and structure and expectations for a candidate. other interviewers didn't say much and expected me to ask questions. be prepared to ask questions to show that you really want the job and that you are interested in the business.
