Java Developer Interview

Java Developer

Interviewed at IRS

Interview Details – It is a very long process. You are given plenty of documents to review and sign. It is expected since it is a government job, but a couple of the documents seems like they are asking the same information over and over again. You do get someone from the HR office that interview you, and they usually perform the interview over the phone.

Interview Question – There wasn't any real difficult question. It was a surprise that technical questions were actually asked to be honest.   Answer Question

Tax Examiner Interview

Tax Examiner

I applied online and interviewed at IRS.

Interview Details – Initial hiring is based on an online application, screening, and scoring system. Itf referred for consideration, it is more of a process for lower level than an interview. Application should NOT be a one or two page resume. Make it relevant, but be sure to be as detailed as possible.

Negotiation Details – Not applicable.

Contact Representative Interview

Contact Representative
Cleveland, OH

I applied online and the process took 6 months - interviewed at IRS.

Interview Details – Completed the online application two days before announcement expired, received a call to complete fingerprinting two months later, received a call to complete computer/practice call assessment a month afterwards and received an offer for employment about three months after the assessment.

Interview Question – There was NO interview back in 2006 for contact reps. You have to complete an assessment on a computer taking phone calls from a recruiter that you cannot see. They did not want to see if you would have the right answers necessarily...but rather, if HOW you answered them and followed directions. TIP: They are always monitoring your professionalism. Most of the escorts are actually MANAGERS so behave professionally, dress well and act as if someone is watching you at all times (because they are). 4 years later, I became a Lead / Manager and know first hand. Best wishes   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was NO negotiation at the time. Now, they base it on your education/experience level and you WILL be measured up to your abilities later on.

Individual Tax Advisory Specialist Interview

Individual Tax Advisory Specialist

Interviewed at IRS

Interview Details – It's a very long process. Security is a big concern so you have to go through a lot of checks. There's also tons of applications so you have to be patient. It took me 6 months from application to start date and some can take longer. This position only required a two person interview which was your normal questions so nothing different there. Biggest thing is that even after hired you're still going through security checks so you can be fired after hired within months but after that you're in the clear.

Interview Question – One question was worded with IRS jargon but just ask what they mean and they'll explain it in better terms and will not hold it against you. They're just use to people knowing what they're talking about because they use the same phrases all the time on the job.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – there was none for me but I've heard it's possible if you have enough experience but you would not be negotiating the salary but the grade level as they're pretty much set based on the job. All salaries are online and in the job description so it shouldn't be a surprise.

I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at IRS.

Interview Details – All correspondence was online. No face to face interview. Basically seemed like you were hired in the order in which the applications were received. Strange process. HE emailed all information and met with me to fill out paperwork, did a background check, then made an offer of employment via email after I passed the background check.

Negotiation Details – Not willing to negotiate.

Very Easy Interview

Tax Examining Technician Interview

Tax Examining Technician
Cincinnati, OH

I applied online and interviewed at IRS.

Interview Details – The process is long and cumbersome through the internet. Feedback is good. They like resume and transcripts. A background investigation is done after you are hired. Sometimes no interview or one over the phone. Best employer HR for not getting caught up in phoney interview expectations. The color of your resume, suit you are wearing or staying up the night before practicing what HR people like to hear is joyfully not an issue.

Interview Question – They want very much detail that sometimes is very time consuming to look back and find. If you combine employment with company that changed it's name 3 times the background investigation will wonder why you did not list each individually. For years you are out of work they want exact dates.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – No negotiation. They go by opm wage tables.
