Interviewed Dec 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Applied online, a week later I recieved an email to schedule a phone interview. Phone interview went well, scheduled a 1:1 interview for the following week. Interview consisted of a basic math test, a brief writing portion, one on one interview, then the interviewer brought in a colleague to inerview me as well. The face to face interview took about two hours. The interviewers informed me that they weren't positive that the postion was going to be created for the area I was in and they would let me know when a decesion was made. I called the interviewer two weeks after the interview to check on the status of the position, at which time they informed me that the job was not going to be filled after all. Kind of a waste of time for everyone involved.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 2 months)
So far, all my interactions with ISO have been positive but the company moves at a pretty slow pace.
I applied with a resume and cover letter to an open position I saw on their website in May. A month later I get an email from someone asking if I'm still interested in the position. After some email correspondence I was told someone would be calling to talk to me. A few weeks later I have a phone conversation with someone on their staff about my resume, we set up an interview for three weeks later.
The interview was very relaxed. Two individuals sat at a table with me as they went over the duties of the position, asking how I felt I could perform each duty and examples of how I've done this type of work in the past. It was very informal, just like a conversation.
At the end of the interview I was told they were looking for someone to start in September and that they would be contacting me. Through email correspondence I've been told the position is still open and that they are considering all their options. Again. my experience has been very positive but no one seems to be in a hurry.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Jersey City, NJ (took 1+ week)
they had 2 tests, math and english. the math was SAT style with a twist and the hardest part was that there was 40 min 40 questions. a minute per question! i was not ready for that kind of speed. and the questions where all twisty, i passed my actuarial fm/2 exam so i know my numbers, but i found the time constraint realy difficult on this one.
the english test was basically they give you a paragraph describing some aspect of insurance and then they want you to write a short essay on it. after that there is a 30 question in 30 minutes vocabulary test which was BRUTAL. they asked for negative definitions and best fit kind of questions and most of the answers were kind of right. the whole thing took two hours and then you do a 30 min 1:1 interview. the interview went fine but they never called back or responded to my follow up emails.
over all worst interview ever.
heard its a nice place to work though. whatev.

Interviewed Feb 2009 in San Francisco, CA (took 5 days)
There was a phone interview, resume review, in-person interview and a test. The phone interview was standard. The resume review was thorough and included calling all references. The in-person interview was also fairly thorough, and involved two different interviewers. The test features math and analysis questions and was administered after the in-person interviews took place.

Negotiation Details
I was able to get a little bit extra in salary, but it's a really firm (and very low) ceiling. The benefits were okay, though, and you might be able to negotiate there, for more time off, for example. They also provide a company vehicle and some other equipment. Training was extensive and valuable, but they essentially lose the best people because you just can't afford to work for that amount in the Bay Area.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Skills Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed May 2010 in Jersey City, NJ (took 3 months)
A recruiter sent an email in March to which I responded immediately. Two months later I was contacted for a phone screening. A week later I was called for an in-person interview. I spent 1 hour taking an SAT-like test, 30 minutes waiting for my actual interview to begin, 1.5 hours with an interview panel of 3 upper level employees from various departments, and an hour in a lunch interview with two more upper level employees. I was called a week later with the job offer.
All in all, the interview process was very different than at any of the other companies I interviewed with. The interview panels made it possible for the employees to ask specific questions about the field rather than fill 20 minutes each discussing the basics of my resume. It was intimidating, but I think they got a better feel for their candidates that way.

The inteview process at ISO is pretty standard and uneventful. An HR person may pre-sceen you by asking questions over the phone, once they deem you a fit, you are called in for an interview where most of the time you are meeting with just the hiring manager and not anyone else from the team/group. One interview is all that it can take to be hired. You can literally meet with the hiring manager one week, and then next week be offered the job. Most of the VP's at ISO are very impressed with "outside" talent, even more so if you have experience working for a direct competitor or a big insurance company (so use that to your advantage when negotiating).

Interviewed Apr 2009 in San Francisco, CA (took a day)
A recruiter connected me to ISO in San Francisco. Had a couple of phone interviews and then they asked me to come for onsite interviews. There were the general questions about Statistics, building models and managing teams; there was a presentation as well. I liked most people I talked to -- it seemed a good mix of younger and older workers and the offices appeared sunny and collaborative. I answered all their questions and felt the interview went well in general. The hiring manager in fact told me he hoped I'd join them!
However, they came back and said they did not want to move forward because they had earlier thought I was more "senior". I was puzzled -- did they think I had padded my resume or lied about my work experience? Of course I had not. This only leaves the possibility that they expected me to be a bit older. That was the only reason given. I was in my early 30s at that time, had been a manager for 2 years already, and perhaps looked a couple years younger than my true age.
This might be a one-off or perhaps the job description had changed in the meantime, but gave an impression of disorganization and lack of professionalism -- though with the economy the way it was in 2009, they could do it.
