  not assign any ip address to your interface then what ip address would it get?

169.254.x.x I think... this is some predefined cisco address that an interface gets when not assigned anything.

question, why would this even matter in a real environment. And truly, the question is faulty on it's own -- the only way you can get a machine that has no IP is if your machine has no network interface. if you do not have DHCP, and you have a network card, your network interface assigns an IP to you (cisco predefined) -- you have an assigned IP. Whether that is a useful ip or not is irrelevant.
