Interviewed Jun 2011 in San Diego, CA (took 3 weeks)
First I had a phone interview with an HR person she described the responsibilities and scope of position,it sounded very different than the posted position on their web site.
I was called in to interview with what seemed to be a lead tech. then supervisor and dept.manager they asked very routine questions and asked if I was willing to work around very dangerous chemicals and I had no problems because I had prior experience and training.

Reason for Declining
I was also looking at several other companies in the San Diego area and other than being a weekend position that I hated they really gave a low offer as compared to another local company's so I declined their offer.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 2 days)
I interviewed first with a team lead, then with his manager. We discussed the job requirements, advancement potential, departmental structure, training process, and the benefits. Both gentlemen were well-spoken and straight-forward. I appreciated that they did not ask me goofy questions like "If you were a flavor of yogurt, what flavor would you be?", since this kind of innane question totally turns me off.

Reason for Declining
The amount of travel required changed significantly between conversation 1 and 2. Original overnight travel requirements were stated as 10%. However, the contract stated up to 50%. I was not willing to commit to "up to" anything over 10% so I declined the offer.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview.

Interviewed Jul 2010 (took 3 days)
started with phone interview. then came in to talk to HR and Director I would be reporting into. Then, came in again for an all day (5 hour) session with multiple managers from different departments. Everyone was really friendly except for the Customer service manager who is now a director (she knows who she is).

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took 2 weeks)
After an initial phone interview, Illumina thought I was a good fit and called me in for an on-site interview. After the on-site interview (which consisted of several hours of 1:1 mini-interviews), HR stated that they would like to employ me on a contract basis (and after successful completion of the 1-year contract, offer me a permanent position).
The interviewers were great. They didn't make me feel nervous at all. I met about 8 or so people and each one had a different agenda. One wanted to get a feel for my personality, another gave me a riddle to solve, another relayed a scenario they had at illumina a few months ago and asked me how I would have handled it, another tested my knowledge of the technology, yet another went through my resume in deep detail to understand my background, etc.
No one in the interview panel was a jerk. I tend to get annoyed at technical interview questions (many have nothing to do with the position I'm interviewing for). When I did receive technical questions during the interview it was delivered in a personable way and I was allowed to ask questions to understand the problem--this was the key.

First, phone interviewed with HR then had a panel interview with the hiring manager and regional field services supervisor. Interviewed Aug 2011 in San Diego, CA (took 2 months)
I had a phone and two personal interviews. Most of all, they were looking for an excited person that fits in the team. The second interview was very hard with role-play and what would you do when and how. Also what expertise can you bring to the table. I was not sure if they liked my answers, but apparently I did good otherwise they would not have given me an offer. The people were VERY nice.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in San Diego, CA (took 3 weeks)
Had an initial phone interview with HR that was pretty brief.
A few days later there was a phone interview with the manager of the department that included some technical questions and a role play of a customer service situation.
Lastly, there was a half day interview at the company that included 30 minute interviews with the head of the department, managers, and one person currently in the role.
A week later I received a call from the HR person thanking me for my time but that they chose another candidate for the position.
Overall, it was a pretty thorough process. They were good at explaining the role and asking questions very focused on the job in particular.
