Interviewed Oct 2011 in Calgary, AB (Canada) (took 3 months)
The hiring process for the new grads consists of two interview days; the first one on campus and the second on the company office. (if outside the city, they will pay everything to visit the office)
the first interview: Behavioural Questions (45-60min)
-Legal to work in Canada and confirming the education level and specialization.
- What is the best/worth course?
-Tell me about work you are proud of?
- Tell me about time you provided new ideas?
- Tell me about time you gave idea to another person?
- Good experience you are proud of?
- Willing to travel?travelled before?
- Why did you leave the previous job (if any)?
- Time about giving good presentation?
- Team work project.
- Work below and above expectations
-Good and bad experience
- Organized to meet objectives
- Modification about work procedure
-Whats your major strengths?
The interviewer was very friendly and supportive at the end she asked me if I have Q's and if I wana add anything. Also, she asked me to fill out an evaluation and send it to the company. and fill in Background screening form (to be scanned and sent electronically).
If passed this interview, you'll received email asking about second interview day and if there is any travel arrangements needed.
The second interview day (Fixed date) consists of 4 interviews, 1hr each. There is an interview buddy will coordinate the day and go for dinner at the end of the day for informal Q's.
The first interview with Colleague (6hrs experience):
Case study and interactive discussion about the case. The case might be emails to be reorganized. priorities listing,....
It was good, friendly and easy going.
The second with senior engineer (16yrs experience):
It was technical (Pure technical). He asked about case study and how to improve performance of a Unit. and asking about pure equations (PS. Nobody told me that there is technical interview, that's the reason I wasn't selected for the position,I wasn't prepared).
It wasn't professional and the engineer was very happy of his experience and not respecting your young experience.
The third with supervisor (20yrs experience):
It was behavioural and introduction about the company.Very professional and friendly.
He asked about similar questions (situation based). He was looking at resume, transcripts and the questions sheet.
It was good interview and trying to discover you and giving you info you to discover them.
The fourth with manager (25yrs experience):
The interview was just interactive about my resume with an old manager who is aware with the company culture. Open discussion and simple and previous experiences
Then a 10min session about the company, benefits, structure and environment (By Jr engineer who was not interested in that kind of sessions and speaks tooo fast)
Then the interview day buddy took me with another candidate and his buddy to a restaurant for dinner and informal discussion.
How to prepare for this process;
- Career services at your school.
- prepare situations (Make sure to use STAR technique; they like it very much)
- Prepare technical with pure theory, especially they will not consider if you are Grad or Undergrad student.
- Be friendly and prepare your questions.
-Show interest to the company, work and culture.
- They selected top 5% of the graduates/students for their interviews.
I was lucky to reach the final decision minute and I was refused because the other candidate has operations experience instead of Design/Office experience (PS. Experience wasn't required for this position).
Overall, I'm satisfied with the process and with the professional people I mean (except the senior engineer).
Good Luck,

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Calgary, AB (Canada) (took a day)
A first-round interview is conducted on campus. Once the decision is made to proceed. There will be a second-round interview. For this position, the second-round interview consists of three 1-hour long interviews with different members of the department (one from management, engineering, and controls). IOL flies you out to the office (Calgary) for the interviews and pays for your travels and board. The questions are behavioral based and can be challenging to offer different scenarios as supporting evidence, especially when you are ask so many questions over the 3-hour period.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 4 weeks)
It was started in friendly environment, first little introduction along with educational background and after that field experience last but not least personal traits. I did well in all the sections but in personal traits section I think I was not on up to the mark. Some questions were pretty situatonal and you can't find them in books or interview skills literature. Few questions were also related to organization itself and its policy towards environment like climate change and carbon footprint.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took 4 weeks)
100% behaviour based questions. Difficult to get a read on the personality of the company. They offer a very competitive salary, but they want you to be very open about moving job locations throughout your career. The locations are also not for everyone....isolated and undesirable. They fly you out to the interview location and pay for all expenses which is nice. A dinner/lunch is also included with recent hires of the company. Overall, everyone I met was very nice but nobody seemed energetic or enthusiastic about their job. The people seemed boring which matched the style of the interviews. Nothing but standardized behaviour questions that don't allow you to showcase how you'd fit in with the culture of the company. I'm not even sure what the culture of the company is...

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took a day)
The interview was behavioural based. It was only a 1hour interview that they use as a screening process. The interviewer informed that if I was to qualify for a second round, it would be for 3 hours on site.
Questions were typical, how well you work in a team, how well are you able to manage conflict, what is your favourite/worst course, how well do you know the company, etc. etc.
The important thing to remember is they expect you to answer using the STAR technique. Descripe the Situation or Task you had to perform, Action you took and what was the Results.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Sarnia, ON (Canada) (took a day)
The interview consisted of a 45 minute presentation followed by 4 one-hour interviews with Engineering and Science department heads. It was followed by a short discussion with an HR representative (not actually part of the interview, just talk of benefits, etc). The department heads ask lots of behavioural questions taken from list of standard questions provided by corporate headquarters. A younger employee gives a very brief, quite insufficient tour, and is around to ask questions about Imperial Oil.
