Interviewed Apr 2011 in Dallas, TX (took 2 weeks)
The interview process was pretty straightforward. The manager asked basic questions focused on my experience in customer services and retail. They are especially focused on your metrics, how much you sell, how many credit cards you open etc. They also brought up their CEO Mickey -- I would be prepared to speak about how crazy, fun, brilliant he is.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Santa Clara, CA (took 2 days)
Once I filled out an application, I received a phone call to come in for an interview. This was a 1 on 1 interview where I was asked simple questions about my personality and sales skills. There was little focus on situational questions, most of the questions dealt with my own personal work experience and attributes.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Roseville, MN (took a day)
I first picked up a paper application from the store and filled it out and returned it to one of the managers. After a couple of days I followed up by calling the store to see if they received my application and that they looked at it and if they were still looking to hire for seasonal employees. I set up an interview that same phone call. My interview was about 20 minutes with a manager one on one at the store. I got a call the next day saying that they would like to hire me and I accepted.

Interviewed May 2011 in Asheville, NC (took 5 weeks)
I filled in an application that I picked up from the store, filled it out immediately, and returned it as soon as I filled out the 5 or so pages. (I was told it's helpful to go in the store so they can see that you don't look like a weirdo). I was called a few weeks later for a group interview at the store. I was called a couple weeks after the interview with a job offer.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Ann Arbor, MI (took 2+ weeks)
I think that my application was successful because I was very proactive with the store, calling and stopping by to check in. Two managers conduct separate one-on-one interviews with you while asking substantially the same questions, which gives you the opportunity to refine your answers the second time. They expect you to be very passionate about the brand.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Ann Arbor, MI (took 1 week)
Very laid back, but you can tell the interviewer had a lot of expectation beforehand. She tried her best to make it relaxed, but the small cluttered room we did the interview in did not really allow for that. It was straight forward. She asked typical interview questions. I don't thin I was available enough for them to get the job, which was fair.

Group interview. Talked about our previous experience and the reason of why you want to be hired by the company. We shared our past experience on the way we handle problems or issues with customers. We discussed the things that we are good at and what sets us apart from the rest. And also the reason of why we would be a good fit for the company.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Indianapolis, IN (took a day)
I went in the store and filled out an application. The manager waitied until I was done, quickly flipped through my resume and application, asked about my availability, and asked when I could interview. I interview 3 days later. It was very relaxed and most of the questions were focused around customer service. He asked what I thought it meant, and to give an example of a time I had good and then bad customer service. He also asked who I thought J Crew's competitors were and how I would descrive the J Crew brand.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 1 week)
He started by asking me to tell him about myself. So I told him the basics. I told him my views on customer service and also about how I work hard. Everything seemed to go pretty well. He told me about the positions (cashier, sales associate, personal shopper, and stocker). I told him why I thought J Crew was different than the average retailer. I also shook his hand afterwards. In the end, I received a letter in the mail a week later declining a position. This took place at the 900 Michigan Ave store.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in New York, NY (took 2 weeks)
The instant you hand in your resume and application the manager will ask you the simple question of "Why J.Crew". Make sure you're dressed up when you hand in your resume. The other sales associates will look at your outfit (as well as the manager). If you get a call back go to it dressed like you fit in. I was asked 'Why J. Crew?" again. Other questions included "Explain a situation where you had to deal with a difficult performer" and "Describe what is good customer experience". Be thorough and honest, but do your best in revolving your answer around serving the customer. Lastly he asked me if I had any questions for him.
