Software Design Engineer Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at KLA-Tencor in November 2010.
Interview Details – standard procedure: two over the phone, 1 day onsite interviews: with HR, future supervisor, and experts of the fields: C++ infra computing, high performance computing, algorithm computing, and finally with panel of supervisors and higher management people
Interview Question – some personality questions. most of the questions are about the technology and your preparedness. Several questions about what you did, and present it on whiteboard in front of the panel. Don't remember all the details... Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Negotiation wasn't lengthy, over the phone. I was able to negotiate sign on bonus.
Couldn't get the relocation bonus, since i'm local to the area.
Senior Software Engineer Interview (Neutral Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at KLA-Tencor in May 2013.
Interview Details – Interview:
Recruiter setup the initial phone screening with the recruiting manager.
The phone screening lasted for about 35 minutes. Started with my field of experience and depth into the design and architecture. After the phone screening, I have been asked to come for the personal interview. It lasted for 2 and half hours with the 3 different group of people. Because of one the team member was absent that day, I had to come again for 45 minutes.
The culture is unusual for me. They do follow AGILE process but it is not really AGILE, they pretty much end up following waterfall methodology because of the product development.
The change management system is not great. They use lot of braching, developer has to merge the code. The timings are flexible if you are delivering your tasks in time.
Interview Question – One of them asked me about university. One of the panel member did not speak a word.
They did not ask more technical questions to me, just overall experience.
I ended up asking more about the company and the interviewer. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I was able to negotiate. It depends on the individual and the demand.
Inventory Planner Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 1 week - interviewed at KLA-Tencor in October 2013.
Interview Details – Interview was going really good, I actually felt comfortable about possibly working there, seemed like a nice place to work. The people seemed nice especially the guy doing the interview. But perhaps that was the problem, he seemed nice. But nice is not the lasting impression I have of this guy, he was actually quite rude. As we were talking he motioned for me to follow him, so I did. Did I mention we were still talking about the job as if the interview was still in progress as he was escorting me to the door and then said goodbye. This has to be by far the strangest way to show someone you must have said something wrong. This guy seemed to have all of a sudden make up his mind about something, and quickly. Usually if you answer something and they don't like the answer, they should get a little more information before deciding so quickly that you are not the one he is going to hire. Or at least come clean about what it was.
After thinking about it though, when I was called about coming in for an interview I was mistaken for someone else 3 times in one phone call, but that was the fault of the temp agency. Made me think that he already knew who he was going to hire, I was just to make it look as if he interviewed others. It was really kind of strange how he just escorted me out the door while still interviewing me, so it seemed. I am chuckling about it but I am not laughing, I thought I would be a perfect fit for the position and I had almost 26 years experience at Stanford University. So what was the problem???
Human Resources Internship Interview (Positive Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at KLA-Tencor in December 2013.
Interview Details – Applied through university recruitment-got a phone interview-got an onsite interview-had 4 interviews with leadership and business partners-awaiting results
Interview Question – It was a General Knowledge question. Answer Question
Technical Support Engineer Interview (Positive Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at KLA-Tencor in September 2013.
Interview Details – Interviews are held throughout the day.
I had 9 interviewers over the course of the day.
Its all resume based. All technical, no HR person in the line up no HR questions. All was based on the work i did and then some questions were extrapolated from it.
Interview Question – design an algorithm or come up with a logic if you have 512x512 scan and you need to find a defect in it. You can compare it with another reference, if you want Answer Question
Negotiation Details – KLA always underpays when they offer you. Most they will go up is ~5K.
Application Developer Interview (Neutral Experience)
Interviewed at KLA-Tencor
Interview Details – I got an email from the hiring manager first. Then I had an phone interview with him. A week later, I got noticed to have an onsite interview with them. I did a 1 hour presentation in the morning and meet about 8 ppl. Then I got phone call from the recruiter the second day after my interview
Interview Question – most of the question was related with my own presentation. So be confident about your own stuff and do you home work is very important. Answer Question

Product Engineer Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at KLA-Tencor in September 2013.
Interview Details – 1 phone interview followed by an onsite interview after ~2 weeks. Phone interviews are mostly technical questions in the resume, onsite interview starts with a technical presentation (~45 mins) followed by 7-8 one to one interview, mixed with technical and behavioral questions. None of questions are really difficult. Most interviewers are friendly and sharp in technology.
