Interviewed Nov 2011 in New York, NY (took 3 months)
Representatives from KPMG came to my university for campus recruiting.
There, I had an 30 minute interview with a manager of the division.
3 weeks later, I received an invitation for an office interview.
There, I was interviewed by 3 senior managers and a partner of the division, all of them in 1:1 setting.
2 months later, I received a job offer from the company.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in New York, NY (took 4+ weeks)
Got the interview through campus job posting. Final round interview in NYC, everything was a bit disorganized since the bulk of recruiting was done in fall, so they had to improvise.

It was an on campus interview. I met with a greeter and interviewed with a partner. He was nice. The interview lasted 30 min and it was more like a conversation. He asked specific questions regarding my resume.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Montvale, NJ (took 4 weeks)
Was contacted by the recruiter and asked to set up an initial phone screen. The phone screen consisted on some basic OOPs and SQL concepts. The recruiter set up a technical 1:1 phone interview. Was contacted a week later saying that they wanted me to come by their Montvale, NJ office for two 1:3 panel interviews. The first interview was okay with some basic and some advanced ASP.NET and SQL Server and general Computer Science questions. The second interview was much more technically challenging. The questions ranged from general Computer Science concepts to very specific ASP.NET architecture.
I knew from the second interview that I had slim chances of getting through. Was told a couple of weeks later by the recruiter (by phone) that they're going with some other candidate.

Interviewed May 2011 in New York, NY (took 3 months)
I started by emailing an alum of the law school who worked for KPMG. I had previously applied to the company through its online system. Interviews appear to be gained through networking but this may be a function of the economy. They did not appear to interview on campus but as an LLM, I am not apart of the on campus interview process. I was contacted by KPMG's HR person and I was scheduled for an interview. During the first interview I spoke with 2 people. Both attorneys and both accountants. They were both experienced attorneys who had worked for other employers and had recently been hired by KPMG. People seem to gain some promotions by switching companies instead of being promoted upwards. Neither interview went great. I did not feel good about the interview process. When I was obtaining my JD, I interviewed with a number of law firms so I think I know how to interview with attorneys but these interviews did not go well. I was pursuing employment because I anticipated that I would obtain my LLM in May and I did obtain my LLM in May of 2011. But, I had a second interview with their accountants in the SALT department. I spoke with 5 people. I was tired by the end of the interviews. They don't put people up in hotels the day before interviews like law firms do. I think I know how to explain my experience to lawyers but I do not know whether those explanations work for accountants at an accounting firm. I don't think they understood the type of work I used to do at Sullivan & Cromwell. It did not seem to be a fit at all. It just was not a fit. I cannot explain their culture but it wasn't a fit. I kept trying to understand what an attorney does at an accounting firm. I know what attorneys do at law firms.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in New York, NY (took a day)
The entire process was very well structured. There are 2 stages to the interview: one is on campus and the other is an all expense paid on site visit. Communications are very prompt. The on-site visit consist of two interviews, a tour of the facilities, and lunch. Everyone i met were extremely friendly and positive, this includes senior managers. The campus recruiter took us out for dinner after the offers came out so he could answer any additional questions that we may have and just to hang out with us. The logistics for the on-site visit are well managed with an online booking system that lets you book flights in under 5 minutes. The hotel was very close to the office (literally 5 minutes away). One can tell that they genuinely care about the potential candidates and the employees in that in the wealth of information packets they gave out, there are information for where to find good housing options and tips on where to enjoy yourself in NYC.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Short Hills, NJ (took a day)
This was a awful experience for me. First they bring you in like cattle, the presentation was missing slides it was too long and actually hurt the candidates to have to spend so much time there, at some point you run out conversation pieces. Second the managers don't seem to want to be there, employees appeared to be planning their escape or so it seemed.
The KPMG managers that interview you seemed to appear to be forced to do so and just want to get back to their work. You don't know exactly what they are looking for, it seems that KPMG wants the whole package but is KPMG the whole package? Its the smallest of the big four but they want you jump through hoops to impress them. Candidates should be chosen based on their grades and prior experiences instead they make it too personal. The manager i asked questions to could even answer basic questions about the company?? New Jersey is not the office you want to be at that is all I can say.
