Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 2 days)
This was a formal recruiting event at a prominent northeast business school. The first round was a one-on-two interview with two Kaplan HR representatives. Candidates were chosen by Kaplan through a selection process coordinated by the MBA program's career office. Candidates were chosen from the first round based largely on how well they conveyed a 'story' as to what interested them about education and why it was something to which they would like to dedicate their career. Second round was a phone interview with the typical questions (describe a time when you made a difficult decision, what are your strengths and weaknesses). third round was in-person at the location of the Kaplan Institute nearest to me that was a basic fit interview.

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took 3 days)
First 2 interviews were done over the phone. Final round was in Chicago with interviews all day. Before the final round of interviews, everyone does a site visit. They want to know that you are committed to and passionate about education. You also need to be willing to relocate.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Chicago, IL (took 3 weeks)
Scheduling an interview was tough due to coordination of multiple managers schedules. Each manager spent an hour with me and were extremely time-conscious, checking their watches/computer clocks to ensure that they stayed on time. The actual interview was surprisingly an interview. I felt that they were truly trying to get to know my qualifications and me as a person, asking questions about my personal initiatives.

Interviewed Mar 2007 (took a day)
In front of a group of ten other applicants, I presented an 8 minute presentation on a topic of my choice using a white board. The presentation was to test our general teaching skills and, I assume, to see whether we could potentially serve as effective and engaging teachers in a future classroom setting. Also, minimum SAT scores (90th percentile) were required to get the interview.

Interviewed Jun 2009 (took 5 days)
There was a telephone pre-interview and then a meeting with an HR representative. Then they had me meet with the managers of the department the job was in. They gave a realistic view of the job duties including the enrollment goals and call metrics expected. The interview process was very thorough. However, the possible commission turned out to be exaggerated. What they called an average turns out to be a very small minority.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in New York, NY (took a day)
I interviewed with Kaplan for a data analyst position through a third party- an IT recruiter. I was skeptical, since I'm targeting financial services and my experience with IT is limited. Nonetheless in this market it would be non-sensical to pass up an interview for a decent job. The interviewers were professional yet icy cold. I could tell initially that they had little interest in me (most likely). Most of the questions were standard, until they got to a brainteaser that I feel they chose poorly. They could have asked me another one that would better test my thought process. Instead they asked me to name 5 uncommon uses of a brick and then listed a bunch of things I couldn't say. I was left with few suitable answers and a timed 20 seconds to answer. Well I only gave 2 "acceptable" ones and was dismissed.

Interviewed Feb 2009 (took a day)
I applied online and got a call from HR for a screening interview. I then interviewed with a regional VP a few days later. I visited one of the campuses shortly afterwards to have a first hand look at their operations. A week later, I was invited to the final interview along with about 10 others in Chicago.
I had 5 interviews with some being one on one and others being two on one. The questions were insightful and designed to truly identify the best candidates. There is a strong need to prove your commitment to the company and program on a long term basis (otherwise you will not get the offer).
Got the final decision in less than a week.
