Interviewed Oct 2011 in Staten Island, NY (took 2 days)
Filled out an app online, and recieved an email from HR dept. saying an interview was scheduled for me the following week at 2:30 pm. I walked into the store and went to customer service. They were very rude to me. I told them I was there for an interview, and they kind of blew me off. Anyway, finally met with the woman in charge and the interview was very easy. She was very sweet, put me at ease. The only downside was that she didn't make Kmart sound like a "great place to work". She said "90 percent of all our customers that come in are unhappy". She also said the store was closing in January, so I would only have a job for a couple months. I think Kmart is going under as a company. Only offered min. wage but offered me the job right there. I declined. Overall, good interview though. Asked "was there a time you exceeded goals?", and "tell me a time when you were faced with a difficult situation and how you dealt with it". I was prepared so those were no prob. My advice, don't be nervous, it was pretty easy, but I wouldn't work for a company that is going under. You won't be employed there for long.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Des Plaines, IL (took a day)
Well it wasn't that bad. I came in looking a little more fancier than I had to and one of the associates told me she didn't dress up either. Nice boost to my ego ._.
The questions were of the typical source. 'How would you describe _______" : When was there a time where you displayed good _____ Blah. Like about six questions revolving around the same thing. My supervisor was sweet she kinda hinted off big time I would get the job by ... well just the look on her face. And her interrupting me answering the questions to tell me how to sell commission also was kinda an off too.

I negotiated part time instead of full.... Commission will give me hours and money. Go in the interview and relax. I work a one piece fancy dress piece and got the job. I would have been better off wearing some dress pants and a blouse. I guess as long as you don't wear jeans. Don't lie be natural, be nice act spunky and.... happy really. You'll get in, especially around back to school season.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Fort Myers, FL (took a day)
The interview process was very poor. It took nearly 5 hours to get an answer. I had an appointment at 10AM and did not get out of the interview until 3ish. Very unorganized. I had to wait for 1 to 1 1/2 hour periods for other management to be avaialble to speak to me. They need more help and a major overhaul in organization. The interview only took 6 minutes, why should I have to wait 4 1/2 hours. They should pay you for sitting there all day! Terrible process. Not worth the min. wage you receive. No negotiation.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Key Largo, FL (took 1+ week)
I approached the HR Manager shortly before Christmas to inquire about a position. She said to redo my application and she would contact me early January. She called the Friday of New Year's weekend to set up an interview the following Monday. The interview went well. She asked questions about how I would handle different circumstances. One question was "when did I exceed expectations of a former employer". She stated that she was "blown away" by me and gave me a "pre-employment" offer, pending the drug screening and background check.
She called the following Tuesday and offered me a position. I was asked to come in that Friday (Jan. 14th) for orientation. I showed up for the orientation a few minutes early and was told to go back to the HR office, the manager had not arrived yet. There were a few others that had been hired, although none of them were there either. After waiting 20 minutes past the orientation time, a lady came back and said there was an emergency with the HR manager and she would call me on Monday. Monday came and went. On Tuesday, I called to find out what was going on and she was still out. I have not heard from her or anyone since.
Although the interview went well and the HR Manager was professional, I consider everything else to be very unprofessional. I suspect reverse "discrimination" and that I was only considered due to reverse "Affirmative Action". I base this suspicion on the fact that only certain ethnic groups work at this particular store. Perhaps the Corporate office caught wind of this and forced them to consider all candidates. I thought about writing a formal complaint, but due to researching this company and not wanting to work there anyways, I decided against it. It's not worth my time and I have since then been offered a position with a more reputable company.

Negotiation Details
They start everyone off with $7.25 an hour and it's not negotiable. Unless you have no money, it's not worth it. It is better than no money however and it's a start. I would find out though what the chances are for promotions and raises because not many can survive on this wage anymore.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Bozeman, MT (took a day)
I applied online for Kmart via the Sears Holding Company website, It prompted me at the end to "set up a time for an interview". I though this was very strange and had not encountered an automated interview scheduler yet. I ended up calling the store and spoke with the HR manager, she was very nice and invited me in for an interview later that same day.
When I arrived in the store a CSA called the HR manager and we proceeded to her office for the first interview, It was a simple process. She wanted me to undergo a secondary interview with the store manager, which I did immediately following the first interview. I was offered a position, I assume conditionally. It would have been nice for the "offer" to be a little bit more clear. Long story short, I still need to bring a list of previous residences (8 years back), my SS card, and a drivers license so they can process me and conduct my background check. I assume I will have to pass a drug test as well, but I guess I'll find out when I go back in to the store in a few days.
