Interviewed Jun 2011 (took 1 week)
We went into the back room and it was a group interview. Basically just go around and answer the question if you have an answer. There was no pressure to answer a question, but I made sure to answer almost all of the questions. After about a week I got a call to come in for orientation.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Madison, AL (took 1+ week)
I was called to come in for an interview. It consisted of situational questions such as "Tell me a time you went abouve and beyond at work?" The interviewer was very upbeat but informal. They called the next day to set up a second interview with a different manager. I was basically the same format but different questions. She set up my drug test for the following Monday. I didn't hear anything until Thursday. I was offered the job and went in for orientation the following day and started the next. I've only worked 2 days so far but everyone is really nice. I am doing ad set overnight so its very laid back with virtually no dress code.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Northville, MI (took a day)
A group interview, the setting encourages group interaction, more gregarious personalities. If you say nothing, or if you wait too long to let your voice be heard, you will not get a callback.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Phoenix, AZ (took 4 weeks)
The group interview wasn't stressful at all. Applicants weren't pressured to give an response to each question (about 10 total). Quick interview with the store manager followed and that was relaxed as well.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Dayton, OH (took a day)
There was some sort of test with the online reservation, but I don't know how I would classify it.
My first mistake was thinking that any good could come from an open interview process to staff a new store.
I arrived on-time, check in was easy. Felt a bit overdressed, the confirmation for the interview stated business professional and I guess I didn't realize that now included flip-flops. As I waited for my group to be called, I felt pretty confident about my chances.
In the group interview they would ask a question, and then everyone would answer the same question. They would start with a different person each time. None of them were difficult questions at all, and you were pretty unlucky to be at the end of the line on a question because whatever brilliant thing that you thought you were going to say had already been said five times.
After they asked their question, we had an opportunity to ask questions and then the two interviews went into the hall. From there, they called us out one by one. When I got out they asked a few more specific questions and sent me on my way. At the point, I figured I didn't get it because while we were waiting people from previous interviews were being herded back in for additional paperwork. I really would have rather got to live in the fantasy that I was finally going to be working again for a few more days. Especially in light of the fact, that they were slated to interview 1000+ people over the next several days.
I don't know how you effectively find people with that sort of mob interview. The process actually completely changed my opinion of Kohl's as a store. I can't take their associates seriously.
I guess next time I wear my flipflops.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 2 days)
It was a group interview, which was my first. I found it to be a bit off-putting as some interviewees had terrible, lengthy, embarrassing, and/or off topic answers. I spent half my time cringing at their answers or feeling sorry for them.
The questions were standard variety interview questions and the interviewer quickly went through each and was clear with the intent of the question.
It took about 1.5hrs.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took a day)
My situation was a little unique as I applied for brandnew store opening soon. I applied on kohlscareers.com under the 'New store openings' jobs available. They general give you the option of what position you want to apply for then you have to answer a few basic questions (multiple choice) on the website. Common sense questions like what would you do if you found out a co-worker was stealing, how would you approach a customer that needed help, etc. I think they use these as a way to weed out people right away. Then they give you dates and times of the job fair you can self-schedule for your interview. They held the job fair at a hotel near by in conference room. When I got there I checked in with one of the managers and they had me fill out a packet before my interview time. The packet contained a basic application, a couple of pages for references and past work history and some other papers for work tax credit things. We had to have it checked over by one of the couple manangers there to make sure we filled everything out. Then I was called with my group for the group interview. They took 9 of us into another room for the interview. A manager asked the questions while an assistant managert took notes of our answers. They asked us about 4 questions and we went around the room and took turns giving our answers. The questions were 1. What did/didnt like about your last job and what position are you applying for and your availability? 2. How do you feel about soliciting Kohl's credit cards? 3. What would you do if a customer had a question that you didnt know the answer to? 4. How many days do you think is acceptable to miss work and how would you handle calling out of work if you had to?
They said it may take a week or two for them to start calling people back. My interview was on a Thursday and they called me back that next Monday to offer me a position.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Lacey, WA (took 4 days)
I applied for the Ad Set Associate job on Snagajob.com and then I got a call on my home phone to interview the very next day. I was prepared for the interview because I came to glassdoor.com. If I hadn’t I would have been surprised by the group interview…and I mean there were 6 interviewees and 2 interviewers. The interviewers were positive and friendly and put everyone at ease. I got the sense that they were most interested in everyone’s availability to work. They asked everyone the same questions and there were only 6 questions (I think) but they were really easy. They asked, what would you do if you saw a fellow co-worker stealing and what should happen to that person? What types of environment to you prefer to work in, fast pace versus slow? Are you comfortable soliciting credit? It was all very common sense stuff. I think it is important to go in there and exude confidence and the ability to communicate effectively. Everyone who works there seems comfortable striking up a conversation and have outgoing personalities.

Reason for Declining
It is important to note that I WOULD have taken the job. I live out in the middle of nowhere and I don’t get cellphone reception and I didn’t think that would matter because they contacted me on my home phone for an interview. I didn’t realize until a week later when I was in town that they actually tried to call me in and offer me a job TWICE on my cellphone. I was really bummed about that. I tried to touch base with the manager but she never called me back. So make sure to check all methods for which you put down for contact information!

Interviewed Apr 2010 (took 2 days)
I was looking for a part time job that would not interfere with my primary role as wife and mother. I very frequently shop at Kohl's and decided to search online for job openings. Rather than send in an online application I went to the two Kohl's in my area and filled out job applications, making sure to meet and greet a few "higher up" people. I was called a few days later by the store manager and she asked me a few questions, asked about my availability (important that I was available virtually any night) and informed me it was a minimum wage job and I'd work between 10 or 15 hours a week. I was invited to attend a "group interview." About 7 or 8 of us met with the manager and her assistant manager for an hour or so. We were told not to be shy, that we needed to jump in and join the conversation because that was how they could tell if we would be a good fit. There were specific questions asked and we could jump in and answer. Most of the questions had to do with honesty. Evidentally there is a huge problem with employee theft and they were trying to discern who would be least likely to attempt to steal from Kohl's. They also asked what we would do in certain situations and asked if we liked to do one thing at a time or do many things at once. It didn't seem important which way we answered.
I think the very next day I got a call from the manager asking if I'd like to join their team and I agreed. Over the next two weeks I was in training with one other person from the interview group. We primarily watched videos and took very easy tests. When I started working in Ad Set I was put with someone who'd been doing it for some time and she taught me the details.
It has been a very positive experience working at Kohl's and I really enjoy the people I work with and the hours I work. I also receive a small discount on merchandise.
