Kohl's Sales Associate/Cashier Interview

Posted Aug 18, 2012

No Offer – Interviewed in Westland, MI Aug 2012 – Reviewed Aug 18, 2012

Interview Details – I applied to Kohl's though SnagAJob.com and was contacted within 1-2 weeks by a lady from the HR Department. She gave two dates that they were holding interviews and let me choose which was best for me. A few days later I showed up for the interview and there was a group of people waiting. Turns out it was a group interview, which I figured from reading the reviews on here.

We were greeted by a manager and manger-in-training who would be taking notes and "scoring" people during the interview. The interview group consisted of 14 people. The HR manager showed up 5-10 minutes late. He started by having us introduce ourselves... ( name, previous experience and why we wanted to work at kohl's ).

After introductions, he said he was going to ask some questions and he cleary stated that he did NOT need long detailed answers. He made it very clear that we did not have to outshine the person before us and should not worry about having a better answer than someone else, and it was even okay to just answer "yes" "no" or to just simply say you agree with the previous persons answer.

The HR manager said hes been in the business long enough to be able to tell the "genuine" people from the ones that arent and he's looking for certain qualities during the interview such as eye contact, etc.

By the end of the interview the 3 managers left the room so they could "make sure they had everything before we left" They came back and told 4 people to stay and said we'd hear from them within 2 weeks.

The HR Manager did not really care to hear our stories or opinions and the final applicans that were chosen did not have much experience or people skills for the job. One girl was even late to the interview and still chosen.
