Interviewed Oct 2011 in Mount Vernon, WA (took a day)
I was happy that I got an interview for Kohl's but very unhappy to the group interview. The manager said they do group interviews to see how we do under pressure and that its more comfortable than doing it one on one. I disagree but whatever. Anyways there was twelve girls and of course right off the bat you could tell which ones wouldn't be hired because of either piercings and showing tatooes and jeans and revealing clothes. All I can say is I was dressed in slacks and nice shirt. But what made the interview frustrating was I was right next to one of the managers and the manager who was asking the questions forgot me. I honestly think because she knows I am the one who kept calling to see when the interviews where she just didn't want to ask me. Finally when she remembered she forgot me she had asked me three questions in a row. What a way to put me on the spot. On top of that the managers had to keep leaving which made everyone have to stay later then told and so overall I am glad I never recieved a call back. I love Kohl's but no interview won't stop me from shopping there. Anyways I have a couple other job interviews lined up so hopefully a little better, and happy for one on one interviews. Also looking forward to the other places because I think I would prefer to work there instead just because other then the holidays our Kohls ain't always that busy. I need to stay busy to enjoy a job.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Alhambra, CA (took a day)
I actually worked for Kohl's in 2007, not in 2009.
I went on a day they held open interviews. A ton of people were there and I was put in a group with about 9 people. We all sat in rows facing the Assistant Store Manager and the Operations Manager. Basically they collected all of our applications and asked generic questions about our work experience and other related situations. The questions I remembered were, Why do you want to work at Kohl's? Tell me about a time you had a difficult experience with a customer. How long do you plan on working here? Just basic customer service related questions, nothing stressful! The interview was business casual, but some applicants wore jeans and such (probably not appropriate). I work a cute blouse with black pants and a pair of flats.
The interview was about 20-25 minutes or so. Out of the 9 other applicants. me and another girl were told to meet with the Operations Manager in another room. I was told when we got in there that we had got the job. I actually filled out the paperwork right there on the spot. During my orientation about 9-12 people were hired (including myself) at the job fair. Most of us were college students. The training is pretty straight forward, but helpful. They don't throw you out onto the sales floor. They make you watch those generic videos and take assessments and such. Then you meet with your department supervisor and he/she will teach you one on one the ropes. I worked there for almost a year and received about 20-25 hours. Your shift can range from 4 hours to 7/8 hours. Black Friday is mandatory for everyone, in fact on that Friday every employee is told to wear black.
Negotiation Details
This was my second job so I didn't bother. But I do like the fact that they have Direct Deposit! Nice.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Group/Panel Interview and a Drug Test.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Redondo Beach, CA (took 2 days)
I applied on Snagajob.com and was called about a week later to come in for a group interview the next day. I came on this site to see some questions and took notes on my possible answers so I would be prepared. The interview was scheduled for 11am but I was about 20 mins early. I asked and associate where to go and was directed to the break room to wait. I was the second one there and soon, the room was filled with about 15 nervous looking candidates. At 11, an admin came in to take roll, 2 or 3 people werent there. We were then taken through the store into another room. We all sat around a table and an E3 manager came in to take over. She told us a little about ourselves then each person gave a few sentences about themselves and why they applied for khols. Then the manager would ask a question and everyone would answer it one by one. Some times the next person had to answer a different question. Some people were asked extra questions. When the manager left to deliberate, peoples true personalities came out and every one would sigh in relief and say goodluck and talk about how nervous they were. As soon as she came back, however things got quiet again. The admin came back and said that if we didn't get a call by tomorrow then we didn't get the job. She then asked like 5 people to stay behind because they had an issue with their application. These 5 people including me were then told that this meant they had moved on to the next step and would have another interview tomorrow at 9. I came in the next day and had pretty much the same process, but this time it was a tougher manager that never smiled and was a bit intimidating. We all got asked pretty much the same questions from the day before. Then the admin came in and had us fill out paperwork for the background check, and availability. When she gathered and checked over your paper work you were free to go. However after the first 2 people left she told us that she let them leave first because we were the ones that were hired for the job! Another tricky trick they pulled. So about a week later I was called and offered a job in customer service at $8.25 an hour and orientation would be the following week. Orientation consisted of paperwork learning about about poilicies and taking a short tour of the store/ locker room and time card process. The 2 hour orientation was paid too. Training is supposed to happen this week but I havent gotten a call yet. It's supposed to be a 4 hour training on one day that is also paid.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Winnetka, CA (took 2 days)
This interview was very simple, we went to an office building for the interview and at first you watch a video about kohls & it keeps repeating until your group goes in for he group interview. While in the group interview you get asked pretty basic questions like what would you do if you saw a co worker stealing & such. Then they pick the people they want to get to know a little bit more and give them a 1:1 interview. In the interview they ask more about you and previous jobs you have had.

Interviewed Apr 2011 (took a day)
I applied to Kohl's probably about a month before I got a call for an interview which I was so excited about because I've been needing a second job. I went in for the interview which was scheduled at 11:30 and talked with the manager that had contacted me. She reviewed my application and just clarified things such as "So you are now working at ...". Then she went over what the hours would be, the pay, and what position I wanted. I told her Sales so she wrote that on my paperwork and then started asking questions like "What do you like/dislike about your job now?" "How would you handle a difficult customer?" "Are you willing to try to get people to sign up for Kohl's credit cards?" and etc. Then after that, she handed me another pile of paperwork to fill out that included tax forms, background check consent, availability, and the start of new hire paperwork. Then I was taken to another room where I talked with the assistant manager who re-asked the same questions, told me what I'd do while working, where department they needed associates for, and then checked my paperwork. When we were done, she said she'd contact me after the background check came in and let me know when orientation would be which was most likely going to be in 2 weeks.
Advice
-Dress the part! Kohl's requires a casual dress code for employees so don't show up in jeans and a T-shirt or you can kiss the job goodbye.
-Don't give short answers. Use detail!
-It's okay to take a moment to think of an answer to a question, but do not take too long!
-When first greeted by interview, smile and shake their hand. Say something like "It's nice to you meet you. Thank you for seeing me today." I did.
-Nod occasionally as interview goes over any details.
-Say "yes/no ma'am", "yes/no, sir"
-Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you can't think of anything, just say something like "What hours would a typical shift be with my availability?" It will show interest.
-Be honest about why you want the job. If you're looking for extra money, tell them that! At least you're being serious with them about the job. You don't have to tell them it's because you just absolutely love the store to make yourself sound good. I needed the extra income to help with school so I told them that.
-If asked about how long you plan on working there if hired, don't say "Until I find a better job" or "I figure 6 months should do it". Tell them you want to work there as long as you possibly can.
-If for some reason you don't get the job, think back to what might have been wrong and plan on fixing it for your next interview, wherever it may be.
Good luck to all you applying! Believe in yourself! i thought I couldn't do it and I did! This was the first job I ever got my own without someone's referral or help. It may not be the best paying job in the world, but at least you will be able to say "I have a job" in this economy if you get it. If you don't get the job, keep trying!

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Saint Petersburg, FL (took a day)
I applied back in November online for Kohls, and I completely forgot about the application. I received a voicemail from one of the reps in February asking if I'd like to come in and get interviewed two days later. I called back and accepted. I went in two days later and everyone was very nice, I had a group interview that consisted of five people including myself and the Human Resources guy. The interview was about 30 minutes long and we were asked about 8 questions, going around in a circle. After the interview, the HR guy had us fill out a packet of paper work and said he would be in touch within the week. I didn't think I was going to get offered a job, because everyone was experienced and I am not. Three days later, he called and said that my background check came back great and he wanted to offer me a job as a Sales associate. I accepted! Orientation is today, and I'm very excited/nervous about the cashiering bit of the job. But I have felt so comfortable in the Kohl's environment so far, so I am hoping it will be smooth sailing from here.

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took a day)
Group interview, usually consists of 10 or less people- but keep in mind that since it is a GROUP interview, if people show up with a job appliaction they'll throw them into the mix.
As for the interview, questions were simple, but crowd was very diverse.
