Interviewed May 2012 in Laguna Niguel, CA (took 4 days)
I received a call right before the weekend to schedule an interview. Only two time to choose, 9am or 12pm. I appeared 10 minutes prior to the interview and was told to wait in a conference room located in the back of the store. By the time it was time to interview, there were a total of approx. 9 people applying for the job. The interview was conducted by the Store Manager. We all ranged in age from 18 to 50+ and everyone had significant retail to management experience. The Store Manager began asking questions and pointed to whomever was to answer. It was a simple process. I had already been offered a job at Walmart, so this was for curiousity and to better my interview skills. At the end, we were able to ask questions to the Store Manager. I found out the store was only looking to hire part-time workers at $8.30 per hour. This was the lowest pay out of all the places I applied. Additionally, there was great emphasis on the need to sell the Kohl's credit card to the customers. Management wanted to see at least 1-2 activations per day. At this point, I wasn't too interested in the position. The Store Manager left to discuss her results with an Assistant Manager who would be joining on the second round of interview questions. As far as I know, if you did make it past the second round, you are then offered employment and start filling out the paperwork...

Interviewed Apr 2012 (took 1 week)
They only called open availability people for a crowded group interview in a small room. If you succeeded in impressing them in the group interview (not hard to do, they hire drones) then you got called for a one on one. If you got the one on one interview then you were pretty much hired as long as you passed a back ground check.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Minneapolis, MN (took 1 week)
I applied online for a Sales Associate position. I was called THAT day for a group interview. It was a group of 8. They asked us all questions and we each answered several questions. Then, they interviewed each of us seperately. It took a few days to hear back and there was miscommunication on orientation and no mention of hourly rate of pay. I felt they were just too disorganized and I was very disappointed. So, I turned down the job offer.

Interviewed May 2009 in Kernersville, NC (took a day)
Kohl's now only accepts applications online and you can apply through their website. They contacted me after reviewing my application and a group interview was set up. In that interview, we were spoken to by an assistant manager who gave us a background of the store and a breakdown of how the store operates. We were then asked which departments or areas we were most interested in working in and what hours we preferred. I was called back probably about a week later with an offer. It was a pleasant and easy going atmosphere. Kohl's work attire is business casual, so that is how I would dress for the interview. The Kohl's workplace is very diverse and at my location we are all like a big family.
