Interviewed Sep 2011 in Houston, TX (took a day)
It is not very difficult to get hired here at Kroger. Very minimal skills required and no high school diploma required. The longer you stay the better chance you have of making your way to higher positions. The employees are very welcoming and I always have a good time with my co workers in and out of work !

Interviewed Sep 2010 (took a day)
It's really hard getting a job at Kroger. The application process is horrible, too many questions. I had put in an application a numerous amount of times before hire. I had a friend who worked there, she told her manager I was looking for a job. I called the manager everyday by name. It wasnt really an interview. No questions were asked, she just discussed my pay rate, I took the drug test on spot, and she set up my training date.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Lexington, KY (took a day)
applied to the kroger company and waited 2 days before i called and asked about my application and the hiring process. Once they told me they would review my application and return my call within the next 2 days, the hiring manager called me in for an interview. At the interview i was quite calm, the hiring manager was very nice and had allot in common with me, she asked me a few basic questions like...
Tell me a little about yourself...
why are you interested in the kroger company? I said because its a steady place to work with competitive pay for a position while im just in school.
what do you expect to make working for kroger? dont be afraid to aim high, i told her $10.00 an hour, apparently kroger has a program online that automatically tells them what to pay you with your experience.
can you do a drug screening? I did a mouth swab in her office the day of the interview and was offered a position.

There really isnt any nagotiation besides the hours you can and cant work, you will more likely get the job if you are a student and can perform to the hours needed. The krogers i was working at was a very high income store, we were based in a high class neighborhood and they turned over a mill a week in sales. Up front workers in this type of kroger need to be respectful and keep in mind, people will snitch on you for the dumbest stuff even if you think they are your friend!!!! Just stay to yourself, keep the customers happy and make sure you do your job as requested, dont forget to do your kroger credit card offers because the managers will bust your ass about it. They do check your scan records so try not to be slow as christmas, and krogers isnt very fond of drugs, if they have suspicions they will keep an eye on you, hope this helps you out!

Interviewed Nov 2009 (took a day)
Very easy. They asked about my strengths and weaknesses and why I wanted to work there. Very typical interview, very laid back company.
They drug tested and did a background check the drug test was conducted with a mouth swab right as I finished the one on one interview and sent off for the results. Pay rates are usually pretty competitive they will most likely start you above minimum wage if you have any experience. Smile smile smile! They are a company that strives for happy smiling faces welcoming customers, all too often there are cashiers who are just moping around. I got hired and promoted several times within a year just by having a good attitude at work and willing to do more than my job required..I was getting paid why not work? Fantastic company, I loved working there.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in The Woodlands, TX (took a day)
The interview was pretty easy. It was almost as if I walked in and my interviewer just started explaining store policy while skipping the part about being hired. Then again, I was only sixteen at the time and I don't think they were expecting me to have have any prior work experience to brag about.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Scott Depot, WV (took a day)
I felt very comfort during the interview, normally I would be really nervous. She asked the basic questions about past jobs, exp. and such. Hours and pay were discussed, drug and background checks were ordered. She hired me on the spot and I came in the following Monday and started my training.

I would say the pay is one thing I don't like about Kroger. I didn't get more pay for my past 16yrs of work, which I thought was crazy. I think different employees such as bag boys and cashiers should get payed different amounts.

Interviewed Sep 2010 (took 1 week)
It was pretty straightforward...I applied online and recieved a call about 7 days later. This only being a PT job for me, I needed to come in later to do my interview. The administrative assistant who did my interview seemed very rushed and had more work to do than she should have. I took the oral drug test and was basically offered the job once the test came back negative.
