Cub Staff/Babysitter at LA Fitness

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Apr 23, 2013

Interview Details – Applied online. Waited a few days and contacted them. Told me to call the next day cause the hiring manager was not there. Called again and was put on hold and transferred but never able to contact anyone. This happened about three or four times in the same phone call. I finally got fed up and went to the location in person to let them know I had entered my application and was wondering if the position was still available. Still unable to talk to hiring manager but a sales guy took my name and number and I was told I would receive a call. Maybe two days later I got a call from a hiring manager and scheduled an interview for that week. I arrived for my interview early and sat at a table with the hiring manager where she asked me a few straightforward questions, i.e. Why do you wanna work here, What do you like to do for fun, Do you have any responsibilities that would impede you from making it to work ect.

Interview Question – None. The interviewer didn't really know what she was doing, I believe it was her first time or one of just a few times she had ever interviewed someone.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I was informed that the starting pay was 9 an hour and asked if that was ok. It was my first real job so I was expecting minimum wage, when she told me the hourly rate I eagerly accepted.

Senior Software Developer at LA Fitness

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Irvine, CA Mar 2013 – Reviewed Apr 18, 2013

Interview Details – No initial phone interview. I was contacted by a recruiter and scheduled for an in person interview. The interview lasted about 3 hours including a 90 minute coding test. The test is of a practical nature and you are left on your own with internet access to finish it. Very easy. I then had 2 interviews. 1st was a technical interview with 4 other developers. The questions were very basic and easy. 2nd session was with 4 development managers. Typical manger type questions in these, not very technical but some design type questions.

After that interview they decided to make an offer and I had to go back to meet with the CIO to have a final interview and negotiation of the offer.

Interview Question – None, the questions were very easy.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – They had no 401k or retirement plan at all, only offered 1 week of vacation and paid everybody hourly. The salary was competitive but otherwise it was a horrible offer. I didn't want to work for somebody that treats their employees like that.

Front Desk at LA Fitness

No Offer – Interviewed in Lawrenceville, GA Jan 2013 – Reviewed Feb 15, 2013

Interview Details – I went directly to the LA fitness location I was trying to work at and turned in my resume and cover letter. Two days later I called up there to follow up and the hiring manager scheduled an interview with me. The day of the interview the hiring manager called to reschedule the interview for the following day. When I went to my interview I waited for an hour before I was seen. The interview itself went very well. She asked very generic interview questions such as, "Give me 4 adjectives to describe yourself" and "What is your weakness?" She seemed to take a liking to me and told me she'd give me a call by the end of the week. She never called so I followed up the following week. Come to find out the hiring manager was out with the flu and I was asked to follow up later on that week. When I did so, she told me what happened and that she would call me when she's done interviewing all her candidates. She never called back and I loss interest in the position.

Membership Sales Advisor at LA Fitness

No Offer – Interviewed in Minneapolis, MN Jan 2013 – Reviewed Jan 15, 2013

Interview Details – Initial phone interview just to go over my resume and probably make sure I was a normal person. Was offered an interview in person but declined because the pay was only $7.50/hr plus commission, which still was really bad for someone with a Bachelor's degree (he said his best sales advisor averages about $12-14/hr).

Interview Question – They all were pretty basic questions about why you like sales, why LA Fitness, do you lead a healthy life, etc.   Answer Question

Club Staff at LA Fitness

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Long Beach, CA – Reviewed Dec 28, 2012

Interview Details – I submitted my application online and then went in person a few weeks later to check up on it. I got lucky and the Ops Manager was working the front and pulled me aside for a 2 sec interview then pulled me to his desk for a 5 minute interview and offered me a part-time position to start.

Interview Question – Nothing unexpected.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I was offered minimum wage. I can't go from making 40k/year(about $19/hour) to roughly 17k/year($8/hour). I have a bachelors from a UCLA, I have loans to pay back and then some!

Operations Manager at LA Fitness

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Saint Clair Shores, MI Dec 2011 – Reviewed Nov 9, 2012

Interview Details – I was employed with Bally's when LA acquired the company so I didn't really go through a formal hiring process. It was a VERY stressful few months after the transition but LA did a good job of trying to help the remaining employees through, there were minimal lay-offs.

Interview Question – The DOM was really just trying to make sure I was still willing to stay with the company and that I had basic skills. They could not afford to bring in more staff immediately so they wanted to keep as many managers as possible.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – None

Sales Counselor at LA Fitness

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Cincinnati, OH – Reviewed Oct 16, 2012

Interview Details – Wasn't a hard interview, they have a tough time getting people to take the job in the first place. Asked basic questions such as do I have any sales experience and what is the closest experience I have to sales.

Interview Question – He asked if I owned a car, but not because he wanted to make sure I got to work on time. He didn't tell me that I would be driving around uncompensated passing out passes. Other than that he just asked me about what was on my resume.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I was told the job pays 7.70/hr but the great thing is, is that I can get promoted within four months and that GM's can make 70-80,000 (not true) and Weekend GM's can make 60-70,000 (not true). They didn't plan on keeping me longer than 4 months.
