The Process includes the pre-placement Talk, Written Test(Aptitude only) and Interview. Aptitude test is a speed game and purely logic based.It consisted of 75 ques and duration is 60 mins
Interview was to check our main concepts.The panel consisted of 2 employees who were very good and friendly.
It was mainly technical with some part of HR.
L&T always prefers Meritorious student.

Why are Shell and tube heat exchangers so preferred in Industry?

There were two people in the panel and both of them are very experienced professional from your related backgrnd(for example in my case it was electrical , so we had a separate panel for electrical students). I was asked about my personal background, likes/dislikes and interests. Apart from that i had a technical interview based on core electrical knowledge for 15 minutes. It was a very friendly interview though , no need to panic.
My advice to the aspirants would be simply to hav good technical knowledge from the field you are in(atleast keep your basics clear)...and be very casual and friendly with the panel no need to be nervous or anxious. :)

The hiring procedure included 3 phases
1)Pre-Placement Talk where in the company presented its area of working, the job profile of an engineer and the salary offered
2)General aptitude Test: Containing 3 sections verbal quantitative and analytical ability tests. 30 questions in each section and a sectional cut off. One is required to clear this stage to appear for the PI
3)Personal Interview: Technical and HR based interview by a panel of 1 or 2 professionals

There are four levels of filtering for interview Aptitude Test,Written Technical Test, Group Discussion, Personal Interview. Once you pass a level, you will be able to move to the next level. Then after completing the final interview results will be announced within a month or so.

The interview was easy. They tested specifically the "Technical Skills". I was asked for my favourite topic. He asked very basic conceptual questions about the topic. I answered all. This went on for bout 10 mins. Then he asked me questions pertaining to the company's projects and other such stuff. I knew some but it was a good conversation after that. Another ten minuted and it was over.
