Interviewed Apr 2011 in Baton Rouge, LA (took 2 days)
1st round interview was on the phone. Normal questions, like what leadership positions have you help, what is your favorite class you've taken and why, tell me about your resume. The second round was at the office with my would be manager and HR person. Same questions as first round but a little more in depth. Very good people, and very nice throughout the whole process.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Seattle, WA (took 2+ weeks)
Discussion with 3 colleagues who are currently employed there; online application with extensive requirement of background details; phone screening by HR representative who did not have experience in my work domain; round robin in-person interview loop with 2 mid level managers and 1 senior leader directly related to the hiring organization; long pole in the tent was waiting for HR to complete a detailed background check. Work culture is stable, established and mature - this isn't your mother's dot com startup. There's an expectation of self-management including dealing with a sharp learning curve of immersion in the insurance industry language and practices. Not overly personal - people tend to keep a crisp separation of home and work life, but not cold or stuffy. On most days, this is a solid, rational work environment that you can leave at work when you shut down your computer for the night.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in New Castle, PA (took 4 weeks)
I initially applied for the Med. Services Rep position thru Monster.com. After submitting my resume and completing an application online, I was contacted by a Recruiter and was scheduled for a phone interview. This all was done within (1) day. The phone interview was pretty average and I can't say that I felt either positive or negative about it. After completing the phone interview, I received a phone call from the hiring mgr. for the location where the job was being offered. I also received an email requesting that I complete a questionaire and fill out a release form for a background and credit check. The actual in-person interview was schedule exactly (1) week later. I met with (2) managers. The interview atmosphere was very pleasant and the questions asked of me were the traditional interview questions..."how did you react to a stressful situation"..."why do you want to work for us"...etc. I felt that the interview went very well. Approximately (1) week later, I received a call from the recruiter in regards to some questions she had regarding my background and credit check. I answered those questions and was advised that I would be released as hireable by the company. It has, however, been about 4 weeks since my in-person interview and to date, I have heard nothing further from the company. I can say that the office facility was very nice and the overall atmosphere felt very comfortable. It appears that this would be a nice place to work.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Boston, MA (took 3 weeks)
I first had a phone interview that consisted of mostly behavioral questions, with a few math/logic questions towards the end. I received a call back a few days later to invite me for a second, on site interview. The on site Interview consisted of four separate 1 on 1 case interviews. I did not hear back following my interview.

Interviewed Dec 2011 (took 1 week)
I have extensive insurance background, clearly outlined on my resume. I applied online. I was sent an hour long skills (math and problem solving) and personality test. I received a call within a day from an HR representative who told me I had done well on the test and scheduled a time for a recruiter to call me. The recruiter who called me sounded like a very young man, very abrupt with his questions, but the questions were not difficult. Then, very suddenly, he asked me what I was doing in the 1980's? I said, "excuse me?" and he repeated the question. I responded that I had been in school (no details as I was waiting to see where he was going with this). He very abruptly ended the interview and said someone would be calling me back, but of course, there was no call. Very clearly he was trying to determine my age without asking me outright which he obviously knew is illegal. I have worked in insurance for years and interviewed, hired, and occasionally had to fire personnel. Most resumes I reviewed go back five to ten years or more to whenever the person started in the industry or related field. I have never, ever, thought about trying to determine the age of an applicant as it is illegal. In fact, I was always impressed with someone who had experience. I am not a senior citizen, I simply started my career straight out of high school while attending college at night. Clearly this recruiter was age profiling, and regardless of whether the recruiter thought to do it on his own, or the company knows about it, it was very obvious. Very unprofessional overall.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Lake Mary, FL (took 1 week)
The process started with a phone interview, which lasted ~45 minutes. Went over prior work experience, designations held, basically a review of your resume and a Q&A session about specific past work experiences...be ready to have specific answers, as in my case, or particularly complicated claims, especially ones that possibly involve SIU.
Following this an in person interview was held with two managers. The interview started out with a handwritten (which is absurd in this day and age) test. First bit was essay form, explaining how you would handle an irate customer on the phone given a set of information about their previous contact. The next section was estimating the material amounts for a partial roof replacement. The last area was on depreciation of contents. A calculator is provided.
The interview itself was your basic resume reviewal, followed by some behavioral questions. The behavioral questions is where this company fails in its recruitment process. These questions are the sorts like "Explain a time when negotiations didn't go your way, and what you did" or "A time when you had immense gratification about your job". These sorts of open-ended interperative questions are a greater test of an interviewers ability to BS their way through an interview than a judge of a potential employee's ability to do their job.
Beyond the extremely outdated approach to recruitment (hand-written instead of computerized examinations, behavioral questions that were outdated in the 80s, much less today) Liberty seemed to be a fantastic place to work. The interviewers themselves were very pleasant, and obviously experienced in the industry, and the atmosphere in the office was a good one. Just make sure to google standard behavioral questions and prepare to be judged on ability to spin rather than job qualifications, and you'll be fine.
Dear Liberty Mutual: Update your job application process!

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Seattle, WA (took a day)
I applied for two positions. The HR person emailed me about the one I'd prefer, and more recent posting. When he called, the job he was interviewing for was the other one. Looking back, I should have rescheduled at that point. But anyway, the interview started with a couple questions about why I applied for the position, relating to the position itself as well as the company. From there, all of the questions sounded like they were read from a script. "Sometimes/often XXXXX happens/is important, tell me about a time you XXXXXX." As an example, "Team work is often important in the workplace, tell me about a time when you were able to develop a compromise to get a project done." Not exact, but something like that. The questions asked were related to 'your top 3 skills', teamwork, overcoming adversity, relationship building, and decision making. He then described the position, followed by the rest of the hiring process.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Boston, MA (took 2 weeks)
The first interview was over the phone and consisted of a lot of questions about my background, knowledge about the company, etc. The interviewer was nice and asked specific questions about my resume before asking me to complete a three-part math problem. The math problem wasn't too difficult and related to the insurance industry.
The second interview was at Liberty Mutual's headquarters in Boston and consisted of two tests, three case interviews, and a lunch with two of the consultants afterwards. I had never done case interviews before, but felt that the questions tested analytical, mathematical, and general business skills. I was very impressed with the entire team and had a very positive experience throughout the interview process.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took 1+ week)
I applied online on a Tuesday. After completing the application, I was required to take an approx. 45 min test that measures mathematical aptitude, personality traits, and various other things. It was a bit boring and monotonous, but not overly difficult.
I received a call on Thursday to schedule a phone interview, which would take place the following Monday. The phone interview was surprisingly short, only about 10 - 15 minutes. It consisted of just going over my resume, my salary requirements, and one or two behavioral questions. The interviewer said they would forward the info onto the hiring manager who would then decide which candidates get an in person interview.
The next day, I received the a call from the local manager to have a face to face interview. The face to face interview took place on Thursday of that same week. There was a panel of three interviewers; however, only one person actually spoke, so it was more like a de facto 1 on 1 interview. It lasted about 90 minutes and heavily consisted of fairly standard behavioral questions. I would say, in total, I answered probably 10 questions. However, the manager was very laid back, upbeat, and definitely wholly involved. I've been to quite a few interviews where the interviewer seemed to just be going through the motions. Anyway, the interview seemed to be quite positive.
The very next day, Friday, I was called by the interviewing manager with an offer for the position.
Overall, it was a very, very quick process, consisting of 9 business days (from Tuesday of one week to Friday of the next). I came away with a very positive view of the company. As far as the office and work culture, the company seems to afford you a large amount of autonomy, yet still with a support structure if needed.
As far as interview advice, definitely study up on why you want to work for Liberty Mutual and have a fairly copious amount of past examples from your work history when you overcame a challenge, had to tell someone bad news, etc. Also, this was the third time I had interviewed with the company, so I can say that, as the old adage says, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Good Luck.

Negotiation Details
The offer was quite good and I accepted without any negotiation. Honestly, since this was the third job i've been in the running for with Liberty Mutual, I'd say that they pay is always very high, so negotiation seems of secondary importance.
