I applied in-person. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Liberty Tax Service in January 2013.

    Interview Details

Liberty offers free tuition tax courses. I was offered a scholarship by the owner, so I did not have to purchase my text books. However, the book fees are generally $150-$160. There are 10, 8, 6, 4 week courses. So training for a tax preparer begins in the early fall. After successfully completing the tax course there is a one week Rapid Class and opportunity to practice tax returns on the office computers. At the beginning of the tax season, the company owner and/or office managers interviews you. By this time, there has been ample opportunity for them to become familiar with your work habits, timeliness, aptitude, etc.

    Interview Questions
    • I think the most difficult part is not knowing whether or not you will be offered a job at the end of your training. The selection process can be very daunting for students who have attended the classes for several weeks. So, when you go to your interview you have a lot of angst over whether or not you will be selected to join the tax team for that year.   Answer Question

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Liberty Tax Service in January 2013.

    Interview Details

I attended the tax preparation class and was selected out of 3 classes to come to work for the Petersons. The class was a fast track course that was lead by the owner of the franchise. My interview was an interactive process that took place over the course of the class. Only 10 people were to be selected for employment, all those who were interested in employment knew they were being evaluated from day 1 of class until completion.

    Interview Questions
    • The interview never felt like an interview because it was taking place in a two-week interactive course. There was no pressure or uncomfortable questions. Just an evaluation of our work ethic, comprehension, and a determination of which personalities would best integrate into the existing staff and company culture.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
There was no negotiation. I had already researched the local salary for the position and was offered high end starting pay for an inexperienced preparer.

I did took the training class with them to get certified, so the interview was pretty informal. Basically they have a lot of people that they are willing to let come in and train on their own time, and they schedule the ones that do well. Make sure you have the tax knowledge, but most important is the way you deal with people in the role-plays.

    Interview Questions
    • Role-plays are the hardest, practice greeting people and the written garuantee.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
Didn't negotiate, every gets same pay and same commission starting out at my office.

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at Liberty Tax Service in January 2013.

    Interview Details

Interview Process was non-existant, they just threw you into different offices wherever you were needed, didn't even really ask about experience

Hiring was quite chaotic with them running out of positions despite hiring many more people than they obviously needed, word of advice, try to get in good with one of the managers at an office, not only will they give you more hours, you can maneuver to more pay as well

    Negotiation Details
They wanted to pay minimum wage but I got it up to 12$
