58 sec. Pretty simple but hard to switch on to these type of question after quite different ones. So it took some time to answer.

Assuming bacteria grow exponentially, this becomes a question of how long it takes for one bacterium to grow to fill a quarter of the retort (whatever a retort is).

So, integrating from 0 to 0.25 you get 0.28. Multiplying by 60s you get 17s.

Apologies. it's 0.28 over e-1. So more like 10s.

Yeah. I forgot about initial condition: each bacteria divides into 2 same size bacteria each second. And you don't need really to integrate anything to solve it, just logic.
