Interviewed Nov 2010 in Eugene, OR (took 2 weeks)
I initially was contacted via phone and given a brief interview wherein the interviewer asked me questions to make sure I understood certain details about the position. I was invited in for a site visit, which I accepted. I was given a tour and a bit more information about the job. At the end of the tour, I was asked if I was still interested, and I said yes.
I was invited for an interview the following week. I sat in a panel interview with three individuals and asked questions about interacting with youth, how I might handle a crisis situation, experience with dealing with conflict via the telephone, and experience/knowledge about homeless/runaway youth issues. I was also asked in great detail about my perspectives on diversity and cultural awareness.
In my experience, it was good to be knowledgeable about PYD (positive youth development) and typical RHY (runaway and homeless youth) issues. The majority of the hourly staff have their Bachelors and/or their Masters degrees but there are also several who do not. They have a very strict scheduling policy, so flexibility on availability to work is important.
