I applied online and interviewed at Lowe's.

Interview Details – Had first initial interview with the HR manager and had to come back for a second interview with the ASM(Assistant Store Manager) because he was on vacation. Relaxed environment with questions mostly centered around behavior in a certain situation. "Tell me about a time your faced a difficult situation and how did you overcome it...." Submitted a saliva drug test and was called back after 3 days and offered a position starting at $9.75. I declined because i wasn't happy with that pay. The HR manager stated she needed to get approval to offer me more. I told her to call me back. 2 minutes later she called back offering $10.25 an hour.

Interview Question – Have you handled a difficult situation with a co-worker? How?   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Lowe's in October 2013.

Interview Details – Generic questions on your best and most challenging customer interactions from previous jobs. Nothing difficult. They hire 18-year-olds for these jobs. It's not rocket science. They do a drug test (on site) and background check -- very standard procedure for a retail job. It's good to have some prior service industry experience, but that will not disqualify you for this job.

Interview Question – None. I didn't find any of the questions challenging. It is good to come into this job with some prior service industry experience, but there are people hired for the job I had who are right out of high school.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – They have a pay system based on your years of employment. It is not negotiable.

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Lowe's in March 2014.

Interview Details – My first application was submitted mid Feb. and I received a call for my first interview mid March. HR interviewed me for the PT open position, but asked me to go onto the website and apply for any other positions that I would be interested in before the interview. The first line of interviews were held with a HR rep. and then an Asst. Manager. I had an interview on a Saturday and was called back on Tuesday for a second interview. The second interview was similar to the first in questioning which were all situational. Also, after the second interview was completed I was asked to submit an Oral Swab drug test before leaving.

Interview Question – The questions were all situational based. For instance, "Can you name a time that you had a difficult customer and what did you do to handle the situation?, Can you tell me about a time when you told a customer the wrong information and what did you do ?   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Lowe's in February 2014.

Interview Details – I applied through the online process and received an e-mail a couple weeks later stating that they were pursuing other candidates. However, a few days later, I received a phone all from HR asking to schedule an interview. We did the interview the next day. She was very thorough in explaining the job tasks, hours, start and end date (temporary employee), and how to apply for a permanent position. I asked the pay rate, and she told me the base was $9.03, and it could be more based on specialized experience. I also asked what makes an exceptional Lowes CSA and she stressed customer service. She asked me six questions including: name a time you made a mistake and how you corrected it, tell me about a time you made a promise to a customer and couldn't deliver, explain a time you went above and beyond for a customer, etc. She was very friendly and informative and scheduled an interview with an assistant manager the next morning. The assistant manager was very down to earth and immediately put me at ease. We chatted about Lowes and particular life situations before the questions started. He asked me about six questions that were similar to the first six and included: tell me about a time you had a difficult customer, explain a time you went above and beyond for a customer, tell me about a time you had to work on a project with a coworker, name a time you made a mistake and how you corrected it, etc. Then the last two questions were: why do you want to work at Lowes and something like what characteristics do you think contribute to the best retail environment. I felt that the interview went really well, and I waited a week for a decision as the HR person was on vacation. On the exact date that they told me I would hear a response, she called me and offered me the position. Now I am waiting a few days for a background check then she will call me for a drug test and I will begin work in two weeks.

Interview Question – The only one I wasn't prepared for was the last one, something like what characteristics contribute to the best retail environment.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation. There is the base rate and they plug in your specialized experience to see if you get a higher rate.
