Interview consisted of 20 "describe a time..." type questions, 10 questions asked by HR manager and another 10 asked by store manager.

the Lowe's Interview consist mostly of behavioral questions.I had to interview with the HR manager and another with one of the Assistant Store Managers. Some of the questions were,Tell me about a difficult customer you had. Tell me about a time you has a disagreement with a coworker. What is the most detailed work you have had to do? Interviewed Jan 2012 in Zephyrhills, FL (took 4+ weeks)
They require all applicants to apply online. They'll want a resume and cover letter. Each position must be individually applied for. If they want you to interview (over the phone or in-store), they'll call. If you were passed up, you'll get an email when the position has been filled.
Having been interviewed for several positions at Lowe's, I can say that every interview is mostly the same. Half of the interview is done by HR and the other by either the ASM heading the department or, less commonly, the store manager. They will ask about fifteen or so "Tell me about a time when..." questions. It will typically last 30-45 minutes, depending on if you were interviewed by both managers together or separately.
For me, the whole process from start to finish was extremely long. The store didn't currently have an HR manager, so the positions were posted by the store manager and interviews were coordinated by the HR from another store. After several weeks, I was called to schedule my first interview (over the phone) for the next morning. The HR manager called two days late and said there was a scheduling mishap. She seemed very nice, though, and was happy to answer any questions about the position and employee benefits.
She was also very transparent about the interview process. Every question would be scored and the applicant with the highest total score would be offered the position. I've heard from current associates that applicants have beat out others by a tenth of a point, so this point system may actually heavily influence who gets an offer and who doesn't. Also, they are looking for specific examples in your answers. They don't have to exactly correspond to the position you're seeking, as you can give examples from school or other life experience, but I assume you might score higher if you do. First, fully describe the situation. Then, clearly list all the actions taken. Finally, explain the outcome.
My second interview was with the Assistant Store Manager over the department I was applying for. It was scheduled for the next day. I had arrived early, but the interview started about five minutes past because he was still interviewing another candidate. I had worked for the interviewer before, so it was pretty casual and to-the-point. As with the first interview, if I needed a minute to answer a question, we could skip it and come back to it. If I needed clarification, they gave examples or reworded the question.
About a week later, I was given a verbal offer.

Negotiation Details
There wasn't any negotiation. They have a set scale on wages. Moving from a CSA I to CSA II was an exact 10% pay increase.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Chalmette, LA (took 2 months)
I applied for the job of a Weekend Salesfloor Team position online. I got a call the next week for an interview. I did well. The Human Resource manager asked some basic questions from his book verbatim. I finished the interview and he told me that he will call for the next. Three weeks later, he called me for a second interview with the store manager. I had waited an hour at the bench outside his office. As soon as I walked in, I knew from his posture and demeanor that this was a manager who might be very arrogant and I was right. He asked me questions about my work experience and what I would do in situations where I am assisting a customer. Overall it went well. SM and HR were impressed with me so they asked me to take a background check and a drug test that same day. After I had finished, HR told me they will call me if I obtain the position. Three weeks later, was offered position.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in New Hudson, MI (took 2 weeks)
Applied to Lowes online. Was very persistent about calling HR manager every week to engrain my name in her head for the job opening listed online. Interviewed with HR manager, Assistant store manager and then finally the Store Manager and was offered the job on the spot. Standard interview questions; why do you want to work at Lowe's?, Why do you want to work in this department?, tell me about a time when you had to work with a teamate?, How about a teammate you had difficulties getting along with?, etc.

Negotiation Details
When they offer you a hourly wage dont jump immediately to accept offer, ask for higher wage, as it is not easy to just simply "ask" for a raise with Lowe's as they give minimal raises (usually within about 35 cent - 50 cents) asfter your first 90 days and then every year after that.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Fayetteville, WV (took 4+ weeks)
Applied with the online system on August 18th for a Weekend CSA II position which included the personality assessment online. Heard nothing back until September 8th when I received a call from the HR Manager asking if I was still interested in the position and asking if I was available for an interview the next morning at 10am. I accepted and showed up 5 minutes early well dressed in a polo, dress pants, and dress shoes where I was directed to sit and wait on a bench in front of the manager's offices. Around 10 on the dot, the HR Manager walked past and asked me to please come in. We immediately went over the job description, which I had to sign that I agreed to,went over my scheduling (Fri,Sat,Sun/10am-7pm), and then said that if I was chosen for the position I would be offered the job over the phone and they would then run my background check, I would come in and sign my papers and submit to the mouth swab drug test. We then spent about 10 minutes just talking and going over my resume then she began a 6 question interview in which she wrote down my answers. Then she asked if I would like my second interview with the store manager that day and I very graciously accepted. We then spent the next 30-40 minutes waiting on the manager in which I helped her decide between a Mac or a PC because I am very highly trained in the computer field. The manager then came and took me across the hall to his office where he conducted a 15 minute interview and said I did very well for my first interview and he was impressed with the way I dressed. They still had to interview 2 more candidates for the position and said they had 1 more interview that day and the last interview would be on Tuesday and they should have their candidate chosen no later than Wednesday evening-Sept.14. It just so happened the next candidate was waiting on the bench as I was leaving and was dressed in a polo, faded jeans, nike's,and diamond stud earrings......Overall,I was at Lowe's fou about 2 hours.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Las Vegas, NV (took a day)
Upon submitting my application and resume via online, a couple days later I was contacted by a human resource manager who was interested in interviewing me next week. We scheduled the interview and when I showed up to the interview fifteen minutes early, she prompty greeted me and we went into her office to begin the interview. She asked me to read a brief overview of the general responsibilities of a Customer Service Associate, then sign and date the form. After that, she asked me about six behavioral basd/situational questions from past work experience. After she was finished, I was immediately introduced to the store manager who asked me about five or six more behavioral based questions. The interview lasted about 1 hour. About an hour later I was contacted by the human resource manager offering me the job and inform me of the rate of pay per hour. She promptly scheduled me to come in to do my drug screening in which she informed me could take up to a week to find out the results. Once I find out that I pass the drug screen, I will immediately be scheduled to begin orientation. As a result of already having had a background check done by another Lowe's who had offered me a position with their store recently, I would not have to wait a week for the background check.
Interview Questions
Well it sounds like you are most knowledgable in the __________ department. Pretend that I am a customer. Pick from any product in that department, and attempt to sell it to me.
Negotiation Details
I was offered a very reassonable starting wage. I would say that I was offered a little more than average, entry-level pay because I possessed a college degree, am in pursuit of an MBA, I already attained almost four years experience in the same department I was interviewing for, as well as being cross-trained in several other sister departments. I would assume that one could negotiate their rate of pay somewhat; especially if one already has years of relevant work experience, excellent references, and/or possesses a college degree.
